Vintage Daily Beater VDB I (intro)

By TLex Yes, it is damn nice looking; you can pick that slobbering tongue back of the floor now and read up about the fantastic VDB I from Vintage Daily Beater. The German made vintage military inspired VDB I will only be produced in limited series of eight watches (including 2 left handed versions and a special edition; that's not fair! No prizes for guessing where the rest of the VDB1's inspiration came from either, I have no complaints! The watch has been completely handcrafted, that is everything apart form its hands and movement.

Specs include, a 200m depth rating, 46mm 316L stainless steel case, massive domed plexi glass, magnetic protection cover, oversized screw-down crown 11mm (inside original Rolex screw down), Glashütte diver hands, Tritium lume on indices and hands, Glashütte Spezimatic automatic movement 25 jewels (shockproof) and 2X 28mm shark skin straps.

As well as the very recognizable serial number engraving inside the lugs owners can also have a personal engraving put on the case back. The watch will come presented in a wooden box with a two year warranty. The VDB I will cost; 2350 euro, PVD 2650 euro SE 3500 euro. Now all we need to do is convince them to make a few more, enjoy ;)

RICHARD MILLE RM 028 Les Voiles de St Barth

By TLex Richard Mille has produced a limited edition of his titanium dive watch, the RM 028.The 100-piece special edition pays tribute to the international yacht race that takes place in the Caribbean waters surrounding St Barth as shown by the logo on the dial above 8 o'clock.

The RM 028 combines an exceptional case and skeletonized movement that has become the hallmark of all Richard Mille watches with the specific requirements of divers and sailors; adhering to diver's watch ISO norms 6425 with its water resistance of 300 meters (30 ATM) and its unidirectional bezel. The 47mm round case conceals a considerable amount of technical know-how.

Its 300m water resistance is achieved with a three part high-grade titanium case construction and use of 22 torque screws, complete with integrated lugs, which Richard Mille say will prevent any accidental dislodging of the bezel from its case while diving. Its skeletonized automatic movement utilizes a rotor with variable geometry, a major innovation of Richard Mille that allows the level of automatic winding to be adjusted to the user's lifestyle via the setting of two 18K white gold wings.

The RM 028 Les Voiles de St Barth edition is further distinguished by use of bright yellow, a prevalent diving and sailing color, which has been used on the rubber portion of its crown and elapsed dive time scale markings on its divers bezel. The RM 028 comes presented on a yellow rubber strap.

AZIMUTH Xtreme-1 Deep Diver (prototype)

By TLex I have been lucky enough to get my hands on a prototype of the yet to be released 2000m über-diver from Swiss avant-garde watchmaker, AZIMUTH. The AZIMUTH Xtreme-1 Deep Diver will be released alongside two other models in the Xtreme-1 collection. Of the three it is the one that has caused the most excitement and interest.

It's massive case very much a reflection of AZIMUTH's avant-garde DNA whereas its extreme specifications which include a 2000m depth rating, a huge domed sapphire crystal and lateral HEV a reflection of the professional diving instrument that it is. The model featured today is only a prototype so there will be some differences, and improvements that will made to the actual production model, which are detailed below.

I've been wearing the Deep Diver on and off for the last few days, and was surprised at how comfortable a watch it is to wear. You'll never get a wrist-shot out of me, sorry, I just don't do them, but I can guarantee you the Deep Diver is every bit as appealing on the wrist as it is off.

This is just the first set images. I plan to take a few comparison shots with some other large cased divers that I have such as the ENNEBI Fondale, BURAN Stingray and possibly my PAM 243; and will also feature two other AZIMUTH prototypes from their Xtreme-1 collection; the 1500m Sea-Hum GMT and the 500m Sea-Hum 3TZ. Stay tuned for much more . . .

* The winding crown is too small on this prototype. The actual crown will be bigger with 'pyramid' studs and a rubber groove near the tip of the crown for better grip. The crown will also be flushed (level) with the crown guards as well fully screwed down.

* The crown guards are currently too small and will be bulked up to be broader and bigger to accommodate the bigger winding crown.

* Bezel currently does not have luminous tipped 5 minute markers which the end product will have (please refer to official pics).

* Deep Diver words will be in RED for actual production.

* Currently, the capsule is made of steel but the end product will be in titanium so it will be lighter.

* The production model will have an engraved case back and signed crown.

* The actual production version of the Deep Diver will be released on a very high quality rubber strap (not pictured here). It will be manufactured by the same rubber strap makers who supply Bell & Ross and Louis Vuitton

ZENTON Instruments (intro)

By TLex OceanicTime is very pleased to (exclusively) introduce another cool new private label dive watch brand to the dive watch community. ZENTON with their first ever model; the Diver M45 professional divers watch will house a top grade Swiss ETA 2824-2 that has been regulated in 5 positions. I'm sure the M45's robust 2000m case will be familiar to some, but they have still manged to make the M45 their own with the addition hex-key screw and lug attachments, and a very nice looking utilitarian double rowed bezel grip.

To further distinguish the M45, ZENTON will be offering a number of handset, bezel and dial customization options as well as an option for left or right handed crown placement. ZENTON are a new Hong Kong based watch company who specialize in producing high quality dive watches in limited editions. For the moment they only offer one case finish (brushed steel), but I'm sure will offer more in the future. Stay tuned for more . . . and remember you saw it on OceanicTime first!
