I realize that this is a little off topic, but allow me to indulge myself because here is a rare watch that brings together my love of watches and 1980s, turbo-powered rally cars.
This is the Type 5X from Ressence, a watch made in collaboration with Automobili Amos, an Italian racing company headed up by Eugenio Amos. 
I first came across Automobili Amos a couple of years back when I fell down a YouTube rabbit hole after watching some Lancia Delta Integrale videos.
The Automobili Amos Lancia Delta Futurista was designed by Eugenio Amos; it is a re-engineered late-80s Lancia Delta Integrale with a modern twist.
Originally a four-door hatchback, the carbon fiber, wide-body, coupé is based on the chassis of a standard Delta Integrale 16V which has been tuned to 330 horsepower.
The car is seriously sexy, I’d give my right kidney to own one, but that wouldn’t nearly be enough as if I remember correctly it has a monumental 300,000€ price tag!

Oh, and btw if you’re wondering Ressence do actually make a diver’s watch; the latest of which is the Type 5N NIGHT BLUE.
The Type 5X is the second piece in the Ressence 10 year anniversary X collection and is the first automotive focused watch form the brand and comes with new functions dedicated to the functioning of turbocharged engines.
Something that you need to do prior to blasting off in your turbo-powered race car is warming up the engine and turbos as well as bringing the oil up to temperature.
Apparently the same is also true when you finish a drive; you can’t simply switch the engine off immediately. You need to let it cool down.
The bezel on the Type 5X is a key part of the design. The markings on the bezel are original and directly related to the collaboration with Automobili Amos and the functioning of the turbos.
The bezel is divided into two distinct parts. The first one is dedicated to the warmup of the engine (15min) - the S stands for Start, D for Drive and R for Race - while the other one is dedicated to the cooling of the Turbos (10 min).
The dial and sub dials have also evolved to be more car oriented and inspired by the Lancia Delta Futurista graphics.
With the addition of new colors such as red and yellow, the olive-green softens and darkens in the Type 5X with the presence of oil.
The Type 5X is already highly legible from low angles thanks to the oil but the « levati » rubber accessory adds a new dimension of function, enabling the driver to wear his watch on the side of his wrist.
Finally the Limited Edition Type 5X also comes with two straps as standard. One is made from the same Alacantara found in the Lancia Futurista while a second is in green rubber.
The Ressence Type 5X will be launched at the end of November. It has a Swiss MSRP of 31’500CHF ex-vat.
Thoughts? As amazing as the watch is, it pales in comparison to car. What do think; are you a car guy, too?
