ORIS Divers SIXTY-FIVE Chronograph HÖLSTEIN EDITION

Could this be ultimate Divers Sixty-Five?

It’s certainly one of the most bronze – as it is one of the first ever watches to feature not only a solid bronze case (measuring 43mm in diameter), components and dial, but also a full bronze bracelet.

It is possibly the cutest of Divers Sixty-Five models, too as you will discover if you turnover it over to its case-back whereupon you will discover of all things on a dive watch, a charming smiling teddy bear!

And it is possibly the most expensive Oris Divers Sixty-Five with a price tag not too far off of 5K Swiss francs!

Introducing the new Oris Hölstein Edition, based on the bronze variant of the Divers Sixty Five Chronograph, it marks more than a century of residency in the Swiss village of Hölstein.

Celebrating its roots, Oris has begun a new chapter in their story by releasing what is the first of a series of Limited Edition watches named in honor of Hölstein.

The Oris Hölstein Edition 2020 has been case from solid bronze, this includes its bracelet which is a first in Swiss watchmaking.

As each of the bracelet’s links are made of solid bronze they will acquire a natural patina as the bronze oxidizes, but I wonder how comfortable it will be on the wrist as bronze is known to react with human sweat causing irritation.

As bronze is a soft, natural metal, which is insufficiently strong to be used for the pins that hold the links together, or for the folding clasp.

These, together with the watch’s case-back, are made of high-grade Stainless steel. The polished steel case-back has been embossed with the famous Oris Bear, for one simple reason – to make people smile!

There is even more bronze on the dial, just like the bronze dial on the Oris Big Crown Bronze Pointer Date, this is a first not just for Oris, but another first for Swiss watchmaking.

Power comes from an Oris 771 automatic movement with 48hrs of autonomy. Water-resistance is 100m.

The Oris Hölstein Edition ref. 771 7744 3182-Set Swiss MSRP for the Oris Hölstein Edition 2020 is 4,800CHF. The 250 piece Limited Edition will be available from June 2020.

Thoughts? Cute bear! I would imagine that this will be a highly collectible watch. It will be interesting to see what the feedback on bracelet comfort is. What do you think?
