H2O Watches KALMAR 2 PreORDER

By TLex The Kalmar by H2O Watches, was the brand's debut model. It offered an original design concept albeit with a one or two outside influences, it boasted exceptional water-resistance (ultimately tested to 6000 meters), a plethora of customizable options and exceptional value for money.

It was the watch that in many ways put the German micro-brand on the map. But it wasn't perfect. It had an overall length of 59mm, which made it a deal breaker for many.

It was also made from Ti, which (imho is a better case material than 316L Ss) just didn't cut the mustard for everyone. And it perhaps had just a few too many customizable components; such as the fiddly detachable crown guards.

Despite these minor complaints. The Kalmar enjoyed great success among boutique collectors. It was realized by H2O as a fixed bezel model in a number exciting exotic case materials that included: hand-forged Mokue Gane and Damascus steel as well as Tungum. The latter just recently featured in Germany's Playboy magazine.

Today, I am very pleased to announce the opening of the pre-order phase of the new H2O Watches KALMAR 2, following closely in the footsteps of its predecessor, continuing with the company slogan, 'Customization is Everything', and thanks to 3yrs of manufacturing experience and evolution, it promises to be a fantastic new watch!

Starting with the basic spec. Its case is in 316L Stainless steel measuring 42.5mm, with a bezel diameter of 44mm, a thickness of 13.4mm (without the crystal, which adds another 2mm), a lug width of 24mm and wait for it - a lug to lug measurement of just 53.4mm. Btw that 13.4mm thickness is pretty impressive, when you consider the Kal 2 is depth-rated to 3000 meters.

Divers features inc. a unidirectional rotational divers bezel, of which 3 types are offered with 4 different inlays, a Sapphire crystal, an 8mm screwdown crown and a solid steel caseback.

No less that 17 dials and 9 handsets are on offer, so that you can configure your Kalmar 2 to be as individualized as you like with the help H2O's newly developed visual product configurator that helps you to choose the right configuration for you.

The Kalmar 2 will be powered by a reliable Swiss made ETA 2824-2, automatic mechanical caliber, beating at 28.800 bph and with a power-reserve of 42hrs and a hacking seconds hand.

The once ubiquitous 2824 has become a rarer and rarer sight in the boutique sector, with many of the micro-brands now using the 9015. It is an even rarer offering as pre-order spec. with prices of the Swiss caliber costing nearly 5 times the price of its Japanese counterpart.

All H2O Kalamr 2 pre-orders will get a FREE handmade, black, polished Manta Ray leather strap including a Stainless steel buckle from the famous strap maker, Maddog. The strap usually costs 300USD ! The high quality, exotic black, polished Manta Ray strap has been designed to fit perfectly to the Kalmar 2's case. It should look the part with a black bezel option.

The Kalmar 2 has a pre-order price of 610 euro / 725.90 inc. tax. Its price will increase by 20% after the end of the pre-order phase. Currently 300 pieces are available. Expected delivery will be in the 4th quarter 2014.
