Sinn U50 S BS [no BS]

No BS, here; just another no nonsense offering from the purveyors of German submarine steel constructed diver’s watches.

With its monochromatic design featuring a hardened black case and handsome graduated blue and black dial, this new U50 S BS makes a mightily intriguing proposition.

Limited to a mere(ish) 500 pieces, the new U50 S BS belongs to Sinn’s compact U50 family of models with a 41mm case diameter and 500 meters of water-resistance.

And just like its older, larger, deeper diving brethren the U1 and U2 models, it too boasts Sinn’s benchmark setting TEGIMENT(ed) steel technology, derived from high-strength, seawater-resistant German Submarine Steel.

In the case of this U50 S BS or indeed any Sinn models bearing an ‘s’ (for schwarz) suffixation, its hardened coating is presented in a stealthy black finish lending the watch an aggressive body to go with its demure blue face. But of course looks aren’t everything, so rest assured this sturdy little diver boasts a full gambit of professional diver’s features for that unparalleled German reliability that Sinn are well known for, but so too a high level of dial readability because lets face it that’s what matters most.

And while the watch case of the new U50 S BS offers an exceptionally high level of strength, scratch and corrosion resistance as well outstanding anti-magnetic properties, its components are also fully up to scratch.

Components such as its captive diver’s bezel with minute ratcheting and screw-down crown positioned at 4 o’clock so as to prevent any unwanted pressure on the back of the hand while maneuvering underwater.

The U50 S BS also underwent a rigorous set of tests by the DNV, the independent classification company that verifies and certifies pressure resistance to a diving depth of 500 meters (= 50 bar) and temperature resistance and functionality in accordance with the European diving equipment standards. Finally powering this black and blue beauty is a reliable SW300-1 self-winding movement with; 25 jewels, a beat-rate of 28,800vph, a stop seconds function and anti-magnetic resistance as per DIN 8309.

Thoughts? It’s just shy of a millimeter in diameter to be of threat to my bank balance but I do like it a lot. I love the cleanliness of these watches plus they do exactly what they say on the tin, absolutely no BS.

What more can I say – a Das Boot-iful watch (sorry 'bout that)! But what do you think? Do you have any firsthand experience with Sinn?
