PANERAI Submersible MARINA MILITARE Carbotech

This year has been another fantastic showing for the Italian watch brand that boasts a rich history intertwined with the Italian Navy.

Several lovely new models have been presented at SIHH 2019 that will test the wills of even the most frugal Paneristi (if such things exist).



In order to further the experience of Panerai ownership, a number of these models will afford their new owners the opportunity to venture into those actual environments that their watches were designed for (god forbid!) –

of course with the guidance of trained professionals, of likes of the COMSUBIN, Commandos of the Italian Navy, among others, such as Mike Horn and Guillaume Néry!



One of those models is PAM00961, released along with another model under the historic Marina Militare name - returning in the form of a new Submersible Carbotech.



Conceived for the Italian Navy, the Panerai Submersible Carbotech Marina Militare professional diver’s watches are made entirely from Carbotech as are the bezels and crown-locking devices that they are also equipped with.



There is PAM00979 with its 47mm Carbotech case and black Carbon dial with white markers which is delivered on black rubber.



This model has a special case-back engraving with an Italian Frogman with the words SURVIVAL INSTRUMENTS above him.



Then there is PAM00961 which for me was the absolute star of Panerai’s SIHH 2019 releases.

Its 47mm Carbotech case comes on a special mil.-green rubber strap to match its mil.-green dial markers and 12hr bezel marker.



This model’s case-back sports the insignia of the COMSUBIN, Commandos of the Italian Navy. Damn – this is such a cool watch!



Owners of this Limited Edition of just 33 pieces will have the opportunity to participate in a spectacular experience that includes two days of training with the COMSUBIN, Commandos of the Italian Navy.




The number of pieces produced is in honor of the number of gold medals earned by COMSUBIN for Military Valour, 33.



BTW PAM00979 has an MSRP of 20’500USD excl. sales tax so the 33 piece edition is bound to be very expensive indeed!

PANERAI Submersible Chrono GUILLAUME NÉRY Edition DLC

Last November we were lucky enough to get a pre-SIHH release with the very special Submersible Chrono Guillaume Néry Edition AKA PAM00982 with its ocean blue and shark grey color palette but that was clearly just the tip of the iceberg for what has been an incredible Submersible lineup for SIHH 2019.



Panerai brand ambassador and record-breaking free-diver, Guillaume Néry can now add one more to his signature collection – a new Submersible Chrono Guillaume Nery Edition in DLC AKA PAM00983.



Like its brother, PAM00982, it has a 47mm Titanium case only now boasting a new black DLC coating along with a texturized dial in a stunning graduated greenish-blue color.



PAM00983 is available in just 15 pieces and only from Panerai Boutiques. Its case-back is also engraved Guillaume Néry's signature and Moorea Island.



Purchasers will have the opportunity to have a special freediving experience in the ocean among whales with the man himself, Guillaume Néry!



Aesthetics aside PAM00983 has the exact same spec. as PAM00982. 

BTW, that has an MSRP of 19,400USD, so you can expect this DLC model to be around the 20K mark – ouch!

PANERAI Submersible MIKE HORN Editions

Panerai have once again collaborated with extreme explorer, Mike Horn with the release of two new eco-friendly Submersible models that were created by the brand especially for him.



The two new Submersible Mike Horn Editions AKA PAM00984 & PAM00985 were released along with a ton of other new diver’s models shown for the first time at SIHH 2019.



The Mike Horn Submersibles are equipped with special 47mm cases made form EcoTitanium, a world premiere material introduced by the Panerai ‘Laboratorio di Idee'.



This material, obtained from recycled Titanium, is used for the case, the crown’s protection device and the bezel, as well as the case-back.

The strap is also made from environmentally friendly material, recycled ocean plastic.



In addition to the special eco-materials used for the watches, they get specially engraved case-backs with breaching Blue Whales, turtles, jellies and other lil’ fishies.

The Submersible Mike Horn Edition PAM00984 with its black dial with green lume is delivered on an anthracite textile strap. It has an MSRP of 20’500USD excl. sales tax.



Its sibling, PAM00985 has a black dial with blue lume and is delivered on a blue textile strap. Its MSRP is not announced but I couldn’t imagine it would be a much more or less, as both models have the exact same spec.

This spec. includes 300 meters of water-resistance and an in-house automatic movement, the P.9010 caliber.



Anyone purchasing one of the Limited Editions of 19 pieces of PAM00985 can live the exclusive experience of training with Mike Horn among the ice floes of the Arctic. Sounds cold!



Thoughts? I’m not sure that I’m a fan of the re-designed sub-dial, hands or even the new bezel engravings but I do like the interior bezel finish and the eco materials are great despite their obvious costs.

PANERAI Submersible LUNA ROSSA

Here we have a new Submersible created for the America’s Cup - the new Panerai Submersible Luna Rossa AKA PAM01039 which will soon be on the wrists of the Luna Rossa Sailing Team led by Massimiliano “Max” Sirena.



The new sailing Submersible was released as part of Panerai's epic SIHH 2019 lineup which included 11 other new Submersible models. BTW Luna Rossa is the Challenger of Record to the 36th America’s Cup.



The 47mm Carbotech watch boasts a special dark grey sail dial along with a case-back engraving with the Luna Rossa logo and the America’s Cup profile.



Like most Submersibles the Luna Rossa is water-resistant to a depth of 300 meters with its case made of carbotech, the innovative material also used to make the hull of Luna Rossa's AC75.



Also made of Carbotech is the watch's diver's bezel as well as Panerai's signature crown-locking device. Its dial has a special texture with a hidden secret within - pieces of the sails of the Luna Rossa have been applied to it.

PANERAI Submersible 42MM

This has been a fruitful SIHH for Panerai’s Submersible family, which has just been updated with no less than 12 new models for 2019 – interestingly, 3 of those offered come as new 42MM variants while the rest are in more typical 47MM diameters.



The 3 pint-sized Submersibles join 2 existing 42mm Submersibles PAM00382 & 384. 42mm is still a relatively new diameter for Panerai who are renowned for their generously sized 47mm cases.



Owing to the smaller case size, a new smaller movement was required so all 3 watches are powered by an OP XXXIV caliber automatic mechanical movement.



PAM00683 gets a black: dial, unidirectional rotating ceramic bezel and rubber strap, while PAM00959 combines a blue; ceramic bezel and rubber strap with a shark grey dial.



The third and final model in this size is the new Submersible Carbotech 42MM which was released alongside a 47MM version.



I don't have any pricing info. on any of these at this early stage, but I would imagine these are going to be very popular especially PAM00959, the baby brother of Submersible Chrono Guillaume Nery if you will.

This is the new Submersible Carbotech 42MM AKA PAM00960, released by Panerai, this week at SIHH 2019. The new Submersible Carbotech is dressed from head to toe in the high-tech material.



It gets a Carbotech case, crown-protecting device and unidirectional rotating bezel ensure extreme lightness and resistance. Carbotech has an uneven, matte black appearance, which varies according the cutting of the material.



The structure of Carbotech is designed to enhance both the aesthetics and the performance of the material. To form the plates of Carbotech from which these components are made, thin sheets of carbon fibers are compressed at a controlled temperature under high pressure together with a high-end polymer, PEEK (Polyether Ether Ketone), which binds the composite material, making it even stronger and more durable.



Basic spec. includes: an automatic mechanical, OP XXXIV caliber, executed entirely in-house by Panerai and 300 meters of water-resistance.



The new Submersible Carbotech is available in a new 42MM diameter or in a standard new 47MM size. The 47MM has an MSRP of 18400USD excl. sales tax. However I am not sure what the 42MM MSRP is?

PANERAI Submersible BMG-TECH™

This is the new Submersible BMG-TECH™ - 47mm AKA PAM00799, the first of a slew of new Submersible models released at SIHH 2019 in Geneva by Panerai.



The watch combines two of the most innovative Panerai materials available in one watch: BMG-TECH case and Carbotech™ bezel ensuring extreme strength, scratch resistance and light weight.



If you aren't a fan of the uneven, matte black appearance of the Carbotech, which varies according to the cutting of the material, the watch also comes with a plain BMG-TECH bezel.



Well, I'm assuming its BMG-TECH but it could possibly be Titanium which is used on the case-back of both variants.



This models gets a really lovely deep blue dial while the latter has piercing bright blue lumed dial markers.



Further spec. includes: 300m of water-resistance and power from a P.9010 caliber, executed entirely in-house by Panerai.



MSRP is 15300USD (excl. sales tax). Thoughts, I prefer the blue dial version but in fairness, these are both really great watches.
