DELMA Shell Star BRONZE

DELMA’s retro diver, the Shell Star dives into the new BRONZE AGE!

Bronze’s use in the construction of diver’s watches is far from mainstream; however its popularity hasn’t waned since its emergence almost a decade ago.

For 2019, DELMA who are celebrating 50 years of diver’s watches and 95 years of watchmaking have chosen this ancient material for the Shell Star.

The Shell Star can trace its historic roots back to 1969 when DELMA’s first maritime watch, the Periscope was released while its bloodline dates back to 1975.

It is the Shell Star’s 1970s-styled barrel-shape that now showcases a brand new material for the Swiss brand, CuSn6 Bronze Alloy.

Bronze has been used for the construction of the Shell Star’s main-case, its rotational diver’s bezel as well as its screw-down winding crown which is protected by an integrated Bronze crown-guard.

As the Shell Star’s case is gradually exposed to the elements the Bronze will naturally oxidize creating a unique Patina.

However If you prefer your bronze clean and bright, simply wipe it down every so often with some lemon juice.

Stainless steel has been chosen specifically for the Shell Star’s Sapphire exhibition case-back as despite Bronze’s exceptional corrosion resistance, particularly to seawater, it can react with human sweat.

The brushed steel and Sapphire case-back affords views of the Shell Star Bronze’ s Swiss ETA 2824 automatic movement replete with a custom gold DELMA rotor.

While the Shell Star boasts a sexy new bronzed body, its face has in no way been neglected. DELMA have given the Shell Star Bronze a pretty new texturized dial.

The dial remains faithful to the brand’s vintage roots with an old school spade central seconds hand and railway track minutes running around its perimeter.

This is available in blue, brown or green with pops of bright orange from the hands and hours.

Blue, brown and green are also offered as color options for the Shell Star Bronze’s destressed leather strap. This comes with a Bronze buckle BTW.

Diver’s features of the watch include: a lumed unidirectional rotational diver’s bezel, a Helium Escape Valve, C3 lumed hands and markers and 500m of water-resistance.

The new DELMA Shell Star Bronze is a Limited Edition of 500 pieces. It has a Swiss MSRP of 1490CHF.
