This is the new Tide Commander from the prestigious, German Manufacture of nautical instruments, Erwin Sattler.
The Munich based watch and clockmakers who are celebrating their 60th Anniversary this year have released their debut nautical sports model, a watch inspired by some of their most iconic marine clocks and built using DNA from some of their most notable timepieces.
With a portfolio that includes not only nautical instruments (boasting in-house produced movements and cases) but also fine timepieces costing, in some instances in the tens of thousands of euros;
Erwin Sattler are for the first time offering a marine instrument that is not only more utilitarian than anything they have previously created for your wrist but also more modest in terms of its price-point.
The Time Commander with its generously sized Marine-Grade Stainless steel case measuring 44mm in diameter is for the first time on an Erwin Sattler timepiece fitted with a rotational timing-bezel.
With its muted, matte-brushed finish the Tide Commander’s bezel is engraved with a special scale for calculating the turn of the tides.
This special feature allows you to measure the high and low tide for the next 12 hours and 25 minutes or alternatively on the inner scale the times of the flood for the next 14 days can be read.
In addition to the above, the Tide Commander’s case is fitted with another essential feature of nautical sports watch, a domed anti-reflective Sapphire crystal as well as an ES signed screw-down crown allowing for a respectable 100 meters of water-resistance.
The solid Silver dial of the Tide Commander (also offered in a subtle vintage white tone) contrasted by a set of blued hands makes use of Roman Numerals for its hours while Arabic numerals in increments of 5 sit above an old-school train track for the minutes.
Powering the German Manufactured Tide Commander is a Swiss made ETA 2824-2 self-winding movement with 40 hours of autonomy.
It features a custom Erwin Sattler rotor with the company logo and the Tide Commander name proudly underling it.
The new Erwin Sattler Tide Commander watch comes on either a hand-sewn leather strap or a high-tech (Nytech) fabric strap with a Stainless steel folding push-button clasp engraved with the ES logo.
Thoughts? Refined yet toolish with an inimitable style that should appeal to anyone looking for a nautical wristwatch with a bit of an historical sensibility but also requiring a watch that is able to withstand the rigors of modern life on or off the water. I absolutely love it - how about you?
MSRP is 2,950.00 € incl. 19% VAT.
