AUDAZ CORE TOURBILLON [out of its depth?]

Please don't adjust your screens, you aren't seeing things, this is the oceanictime dive watch blog and no, I haven't lost the plot.

Our good friends at Audaz, purveyors of numerous fantastic, affordable, utilitarian diver and tool watches have taken it upon themselves to tackle one of the most complex complications in horology, the tourbillon. Why, I hear you ask.

Because this young brand dares to stand out from the crowd, strives to push boundaries we didn't even know existed until they were pushed and because they wish to convey their young, free and innovative spirit.

I think this might just have done the trick. So let's see what this is all about then because I'm just as curious as you are.

Introducing the Core Tourbillon collection, haute horology for not so hauty, a timepiece that combines audacious DNA with elegant aesthetics and impeccable quality but of course at its price point.

The Core Tourbillon boasts a captivating yet curvaceous tonneau shaped case with a refined highly polished finish. Its thoughtfully designed hooded lug system seamlessly integrates a sporty hybrid leather-rubber strap, maximizing comfort and utility.

The watch is protected by a domed sapphire crystal, ensuring optimal scratch resistance, and is built with 50 whole meters of water-resistance.

Meaning that it's good for splashing about in the paddling pool with your toddlers. But perhaps you should consider leaving it at home for your next swim or indeed your next soak in a tub of Matey bubble bath.

At the heart of the Core Tourbillon watch is the 3481D hand-wound movement, with a rotating cage at the 6 o'clock position, housing the escapement, balance wheel, and hairspring.

This ingenious design counteracts the effects of gravity, resulting in enhanced precision. What this actually equates to in the real world of + or - minus seconds per day I could not tell you.

The brilliance of the 26-jeweled 3481D movement is further enhanced by the watch’s open-works architecture, skeletonized dial and of course its exhibition case-back.

All of which showcase the staggering complexities of the tourbillon mechanism. The Core Tourbillon is available in Stainless steel or steel with an IP Rose Gold coating.

Its striking design, craftsmanship and technical excellence are all to be had at a mere fraction of those hailing from any prestigious enclave, nestled in the Swiss valleys. But at not much under 1500 USD, which is by no means pocket change, the Core Tourbillon is destined to capture attention and spark many new conversations by the office water-cooler.

Thoughts? I have no words. Even I am a little out of my depth, here. But I will say this, this watch will make the perfect billionaire’s beater or a fascinating curiosity for anyone with even a passing interest in mechanical watch making.

And Audaz should be applauded for even considering to slot such an audacious mechanical wonder into their existing portfolio of otherwise hardcore divers.
