VENTURO Skindiver

This is the Skindiver from Venturo, a new diver’s watch from Venturo with an appealing retro style that is anything but skin-deep.

When it comes to naming a new dive watch, there are in fact already one or two popular name options – one of those is, Skindiver.

Particularly in the past but even today there have been a ton of diver’s models named, Skindiver, so before I tell you about this new one, I thought it might be interesting to look into its name.

Unless you’re as old my Dad (he’s bloody ancient) you’ve probably never refereed to skin-diving as such and that’s because it’s an outdated term (first known usage dates back to 1937) for what we now call, freediving.

According to PADI, skin diving is snorkeling while making breath-hold dives to observe aquatic life, up close and personal.

They say that it’s a great way to explore the underwater realm when you're not able to scuba dive or if scuba diving just isn't your thing.

And according to Collins dictionary: a skin diver is someone who takes part in the sport or activity of diving and underwater swimming without wearing a diver's costume!

For us dive watch nerds, watches named Skindiver should possess some sort of design language that alludes to that era when the term was in use.

And because they are skin divers, you would not expect them to have a particularly high level of water-resistance, either.

So how about the new Venturo Skindiver – does it live up to its name? Here’s what they have to say about it.

With the Skindiver, Venturo has incorporated key design cues from skin divers of times past into a modern and refined timepiece that's immediately recognizable as a Venturo.

Sandwich dial, lancette hands, 12-3-6-9 layout and all, Venturo's Skindiver is an evolution of Gruppo Gamma's Mk I Divemaster, with marked improvements in refinement, accuracy, luminosity and long-term serviceability.

What was once a chunky diver has evolved into a more versatile tool diver, with all the characteristics that made skin divers popular.

PREORDERs will start later this month (August). To be informed ahead of the rest and to receive an attractive offer, please sign up for their newsletter at the bottom of Venturo's website HERE.

Thoughts? I would say that it is worthy of the Skindiver. I 'd like to see it on a Tropic strap, though.

One good looking watch, three subtle variants but which one would you choose?
