PANERAI Luminor Marina 44MM PAM01313

Here’s a familiar face – it might be Panerai’ most basic of models but it also their most recognizable, it’s the Luminor Marina, a design that has been out 70 years, this year.

In celebration of this auspicious occasion Panerai have decided to give their veteran diver (and be assured this is a proper diver with Italian Naval heritage to boot) a new look.

Okay, perhaps that’s not quite true because the new Luminor Marina 44MM AKA PAM01313 is returning to simpler look however with some more refinement.

For starters, the watch boasts for the first time in the Luminor Marina family, a satiné soleil AKA sun-brushed blue sandwich dial.
This is with Arabic numerals and hour markers in white SLN that glow green, a sub-seconds at 9 o'clock and date at aperture at 3 o'clock.

As to the case it’s pretty much business as usual; so this is Stainless steel, measuring 44mm in diameter with a thickness of 15.6mm.

The case is equipped with an AR-coated Sapphire crystal, Panerai’s famous patented steel Crown Safety Locking device, and is water-resistant to 300 meters.

Powering PAM01313 is a Swiss automatic, Panerai’s in-house Caliber P.9010 with 31 jewels, 28,800 vph and a power-reserve of 3 days.

The P.9010 features a Glucydur balance and an Incabloc anti-shock device plus dual spring barrels. Functions include: hours, minutes, small seconds, and date.

Finally the watch comes on a dark blue alligator leather strap with a Stainless steel buckle. In addition to this the watch is supplied with a blue rubber diver’s strap plus strap changing tool.

MSRP is 7,700USD.

Thoughts? Damn, these watches are getting more and more expensive. If that doesn’t concern you and you’re looking for a classic diver that will hold its value and will give you decades upon decades of enjoyment –

then a Luminor Marina might well be the way to go! This one looks pretty stunning with its blue SB dial, don’t you think?
