Drawing inspiration from the original Autavia models of the mid-1900s, TAG Heuer’s latest sports watch continues the story of those Autavia models that were reintroduced in 2017 and 2019.
With an eye on the 1960s, the new collection is inspired from the OG design that was popular with drivers and pilots.
From 1933 to 1957, the Autavia was actually a dashboard instrument used in racing cars and aircraft.
The Autavia name derives from the combination of automobile and aviation. When TAG ceased production of the Autavia dashboard timer, the name was available, and so then-CEO Jack Heuer decided to use it for the chronograph wristwatch.
A total of seven models make up the 2020 Autavia collection – five are in classic Stainless steel and two are in BRONZE.
The Stainless steel Autavia 42mm three-hand models feature the rounded first-generation Autavia case and bevelled lugs from the 1960s.
They are fitted with bidirectional rotating bezels with a 60-min. scale in black ceramic, blue ceramic or Stainless steel.
The XL crown is directly inspiration from pilot’s watches and timers that used oversized crowns so that they were easier to use when wearing gloves.
The dials are with hour markers and hour, minute and seconds hands in SuperLumiNova. The fumé (smoked) dial is available in black, grey or blue, and has a date window at 6 o’clock.
Powering the Autavia three-hand timepieces is the COSC-certified Calibre 5. automatic movement.
A design with a propeller and tyre has been etched into the Stainless steel case-back. Water-resistance is 100 meters.
You can choose from several strap options and thanks to TAG’s easy-change system, you can easily switch from leather to metal or fabric.
Thoughts? I know it isn’t a diver, but the three-hand Autavia is as good-looking as they come. The blue is drop dead gorgeous!
I do wonder when TAG will properly address their distinct lack of noteworthy diver’s models in their lineup because let’s face it the AQUARACER is boring as f**k!
Look at this - it's beautiful! We need a diver please, TAG. I am optimistically hopeful of a Super Professional re-release sometime this decade.
