ULYSSE NARDIN Classico MANARA

<< WARNING >> erotic content, below; prudish types should skip to the next post, immediately!

Here’s a new nautical inspired collection called the Classico Manara from UN that was made in collaboration with classically trained, Italian artist, Milo Manara using the art of micro-painting.

The collection of 10 watches depict aquatic scenes with Great White Sharks, mermaids and beautiful damsels in distress who end up in a scenario (that for my mind) could happen all too easily.

Pretty girl goes sailing, decides to take a quick dip to cool off, is met by hungry Great White, is rescued by passing mermaid, girl and mermaid become the best of pals.

Unveiled for the first time at the SIHH 2019, the series was painstakingly created by UN’s artisans who had to miniaturize each of the drawings on the dials, a surface which is ten times smaller than the original water colors.

From the deep blue of the sea to the color of the mermaid’s lips, all have been painted by hand using a brush the width of a single eyelash. To enhance the scenes, a lacquer has been applied as a topcoat on the acrylic painting.

Made of polished Stainless steel, these Milo Manara special editions will also be manufactured in 5N rose gold. Ten pieces per drawing will be produced in stainless steel and ten pieces in rose gold, making the series limited to a mere 200 pieces in total.

The collection is powered by the UN-320 self-winding manufacture movement. Only the hours and minutes are displayed in order to leave a maximum amount of space on the watch faces for the artwork.

The hands are discreet, leaving the drawings to star on the face of each watch. These Classico Manara in 40 mm will be set on dark blue alligator straps to align with the color tonality dictated by Manara.

As a special gift from Ulysse Nardin, each watch purchase will be accompanied by an original numbered Milo Manara print, signed by the artist himself.

MSRP is: Stainless steel: 26’900USD. Rose gold 34’ 400USD. Thoughts? What’s not to like. ;)
