NOMOS Glashütte AHOI Atlantic

Not all dive watches were created equally – take this model from NOMOS Glashütte’s NEW Aqua Series;

it boasts a screw-down crown, a tough domed Sapphire crystal, a sporty NATO-style textile strap and 200 meters of water-resistance as indicted by the lovable little whale on its case-back, itself secured via six screws.

It lacks a timing bezel but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t like getting wet – in fact this lovely looking sports watch likes nothing more than frolicking in water.

The stormproof Ahoi Alantic has a good looking face too, a deep matte blue like its namesake, it sports orange text and markings and a handset with brightly glowing green Swiss SLN.

The Ahoi Atlantic can be had with or without a date, in addition to the 40.3mm by 10.64mm, there is smaller 38mm version.

The Ahoi family has 9 models in total which are powered by the DUW 5001 caliber, DUW 5101 (featuring a date), or as a neomatik version with the ultra-thin automatic caliber DUW 3001.

The beautifully decorated automatic caliber which features the NOMOS swing system can be viewed through the watch’s Sapphire crystal exhibition case-back.

BTW the Ahoi’s textile strap is tailor-made in France. It comes with a Stainless steel clasp. It is designed to be worn close to the wrist, and so fits neatly under shirt cuffs and wetsuits.

Thoughts? Not wanting to state the bleeding obvious, this is no diver. If it could have been 2mm or so larger, still there is no denying its charm, a good looking watch for the water.

Liked this? NOMOS say they’re getting ready to make a splash! I wonder what it could be? Watch this space from July 2.
