ORIS Divers Sixty-Five BRONZE bezel

If any of the models in Oris’s huge line up of new dive watches this year were cause for much hand flapping and general excitement, it would have to be this –

the new Divers Sixty-Five Bronze Bezel Edition which joins an already popular lineup of Divers Sixty-Five models.

With its subtle use of bronze, Oris has added a new dimension to the brand’s retro diver’s watch, which has already garnered hordes of admirers since its launch three years ago.

It’s now set to attract a new wave of followers with the addition of a bronze bezel.

Anyone who has been closely following the dive watch industry would know that Bronze was first introduced to mainstream (I use the term loosely)

watchmaking by Ennebi’s Alessandro Bettarini (formally of Panerai) who passed the bronze baton on to Anomimo after the original Panerai brand was disbanded in the late 90s.

Bronze has always been a niche material in watchmaking but has slowly over past decade become more and more popular being used by most of the larger Swiss watchmaking brands for their special edition aviation and nautical watches.

Oris has used bronze before in two limited edition models made in honor of Carl Brashear, the US Navy’s first African-American and first amputee master diver.

Both watches are based on Oris’s Divers Sixty-Five, but this is the first time bronze has been incorporated into the main collection.

The Divers Sixty-Five has a bronze outer ring around the edge of its unidirectional rotating bezel that contrasts beautifully with the black aluminum inlay.

When combined with the watch’s rose gold PVD-plated hands and hour markers, the watch takes on a whole new depth of warmth and vintage charm.

Despite being bored utterly sh!tless by all these vintage re-editions, I do admit the watch looks absolutely lovely. I just wouldn’t buy one.

Oris has introduced two case sizes with bronze bezels, one in 40mm and one in 36mm, the latter is a new size introduced to the Divers Sixty-Five family this year to cater for smaller wrists.

The the 36mm variant can be distinguished by its lack of date window - otherwise it's the same.

Both leather and rubber straps available for the new Divers Sixty-Five Bronze Bezel models feature Oris’s new quick-change system so wearers can easily switch between straps without messing about with strap changing tools.

The new Divers Sixty-Five Bronze Bezel is powered by an Oris Cal. 733, based on the Sellita SW 200-1, with date at 3 o’clock and has a Swiss MSRP of 1950CHF on a strap or 2150CHF on a Steel bracelet.

Can you please give an indication (couple of examples) of what you would buy at this price point?

    1. I encourage you to check out: Squale, Doxa, Aquadive, ZRC and Christopher Ward who all have great divers models at the same price-point.

I've just purchased my 2nd ZRC and can't recommend them enough. Cheers
