SQUALE 30 ATMOS Tropic GMT CERAMICA

This is the 30 ATMOS Tropic GMT CERAMICA Ref. 1545TGC, the latest model from Squale. It is based on a vintage diver model produced by them in the 1960s with the added feature of a GMT function.

It is also the first black dial GMT model introduced by Squale in their 50 years of watchmaking. As the Tropic name implies, the two-tone bezel follows a vintage design theme with an off-gray upper half and a greenish blue lower half.

It is extremely difficult to make ceramic in lighter colors, so prior to this, there have never been any commercially available ceramic watch parts in this color combination. The bezel has a faded look - much like a bezel that started out as a black and blue and due to 30 years of aging.

The ceramic bezel is first cut into shape and then the markers are carefully engraved after which it is super-heated to 1500 degrees to harden and purify the ceramic.

The engraved numerals on the hardened bezel are then carefully filled with radium-style enamel paint. The excess paint on the surface of the bezel is then polished to a high gloss leaving only the numerals filled permanently.

The ceramic nature of the bezel gives it a wet-look, mimicking the effect of an old school Bakelite bezel. The vintage theme continues onto the deep black dial with its Radium-style SuperLuminova applied and markers glows brightly in the dark.

Above is a flat Sapphire crystal with a 2.5 times magnifier. The Sapphire crystal is also coated with anti-reflective on the inside for better clarity.

Its case measures 42mm by 13mm thick with lug-lug measurement of 49mm and a water-resistance of 300 meters. It is powered by a Swiss Made ETA 2893-2 automatic movement with quickset GMT and date function.

The Squale 30 ATMOS comes on a satin brushed Stainless steel divers bracelet with solid end-links, screw-in links and a divers extension – plus a color-matching NATO strap. It is available exclusively from GNOMON.
