From the mind of Dutchman, Hans de Ree comes an intriguing submarine inspired design with ‘Einzeiger’-style one-hand watch that combines a 24hr mechanical movement and a cross-hair Day / Night sandwich dial.
All hand-built in the Netherlands by fellow Dutchman and watchmaker, Jan Binnendijk of DumeT Watches, in his atelier where he does everything by himself, the SubDelta was born from a passion for nautical watches. While it is no scuba diving instrument, it is a most certainly a tool for diving beneath the waves!
The SubDelta Periscope recalls Holland’s submarine heritage such as the world-famous Walrus-class submarines. The Periscope name and cross-hair dial layout reflect this – in addition, submariners on board a submarine are unable to tell if it's 8 o'clock at night or if it's 8 o’clock in the morning owing to an absence of daylight; a good reason why the Day / Night dial setup of the SubDelta Periscope is so useful.
Constructed from Grade 5 Titanium, the one-hand Periscope is powered by a top-shelf, modified 24-hour automatic Russian movement; modified to such an extent that the famous Petrodvorets Watch Factory that manufactured the movement allowed SubDelta to rename their 2624 caliber to the ‘SUB 2624-1’ caliber.
The SubDelta Periscope has been Limited to 100 individually numbered and personalized pieces (39 & 42mm variations combined). It can be seen in the renders here on a genuine orange ISOfrane strap, which is arguably the best rubber divers strap that there is.
Further case and dial features include: a Grade 5 Titanium case, a screwdown caseback and crown, 6 ATM water resistance, a Day/Night sandwich dial setup with cross-hair filled with Swiss SuperLumiNova on DIN font (day: submarine blue, night: pitch black). The front crystal is double-domed 2mm Sapphire with AR-coating on its inside, the back crystal is a flat 1.5mm Sapphire with AR-coating on its inside.
The automatic SUB 2624-1 movement is based on a heavily modified Petrodvorets 2624 caliber with 40 hours power reserve, decorated with "Côtes de Genève" and "dorage noir" and a custom rotor with SUBDELTA logo.
Another custom feature allows you to laser-engrave the case with your personal date & build number. The Periscope will also come with a one-of-a-kind black handmade leather strap by 7T2Straps.com and an orange "1968" ISOfrane Strap and Bergeon 6767F strap-changing tool in a modified black Canadian-made Nanuk 903 waterproof explorer case.
The non-EU price for the watch is 1653€ about 1875USD. However SubDelta are offering a SPECIAL PRICE for all OceanicTime readers until July 1st – simply enter OCEANICTIME into the coupon box when ordering to receive a whopping 250€ discount off the SubDelta Periscope.
Wondering how to tell the time with a one-hand watch? It isn't as complicated as you might think!
