BREITLING Avenger BLACKBIRD 44

By TLex While the 2014 Avenger BLACKBIRD proved to be a big hit with the fans - it was (at 48mm in diameter) a little too big for some of them! And so following in their tradition of downsizing, Breitling have released a new smaller version

The new 44mm version of the stealth-like Avenger Blackbird is every bit as good-looking as its big brother and some, thanks to a new sporty red frame around its date window, but is it in any way lacking? Apart from it's more sensible size what else is different?

Well to start with, Breitling have downgraded its water-resistance from 300 to 200 meters. It's no biggie, but one of the the things that I felt was cool about Brietling was that their nearly every model came with 500 meters of WR (at least all their Aeronautical models did). Now if the model isn't a Superocean or a Seawolf it has to make do with 200m, which is pretty a rudimentary level of WR, don't you think?

The new 44mm case is with the same high-tech Titanium contruction with a satin-brushed finish and a highly scratch-resistant black carbon-based coating that gives the Blackbird its stealthy appearance. Divers features are as follows: Sapphire crystal with double AR, a screwdown crown and caseback and uni-directional; divers bezel with Breiling four signature rider-tabs.

The Avenger Blackbird 44's black textured dial is with large hour-markers and hands highlighted by a vintage-orange lume, along with a red border framing the date window. Powering the hands below is an officially chronometer-certified self-winding movement.

A military type anthracite strap in an ultra-sturdy high-tech fabric completes the look!
