By TLex INTRODUCING OceanArc, a new British dive watch company based near Bristol in the South West of England, and their first Divers Watch, the Series ONE. Apart from wanting to build a watch that he would wish to wear himself, Kevin Lambert designed the Series One on the premise that it should be complex in its design, highly detailed and able to set itself apart from its contemporaries, which it certainly does!
The Series One is not necessarily the kind of watch that you'd expect to see on the wrist of your average deskdiver. Its design is bold and fresh, a lot of attention to detail has been lavished on it - from the etched dial, the custom trident handset and cresting-wave second hand to the luminous inlay on the crown. It's not going to everyone's taste either, but what it does do well, is evoke a feeling of the ocean, which for my mind isn't a bad thing at all. Would I wear it to the office? No. Would I wear spearfishing in the tropics? Sure ;)
From OceanArc The design started with the icon of a cresting wave and this formed the basis of the face and OceanArc logo design. The hand designs and hour markers are in the form of tridents, spears used by fishermen and an icon of the sea gods from various mythologies. Lastly the sweeping seconds hand is formed into its own cresting wave to complete the fine detail of this watch. To make this design even more distinctive I decided to use various colours of a luminous compound on these main features, so that even in the dark the Series One will shine out.
