By TLex Somewhere dear to my heart, apart from OceanicTime that is, is my adopted country of 10 years now, Taiwan. It was here in Taiwan that my dive watch obsession really took hold. So, I can't tell you how proud I feel to see Taiwan's national symbol and name realized on the dial of dive watch! An unlikely, but (for me) perfect combination of two loves of mine.
The CAVENAGO Albatross TW 100 is a Special Edition Watch dedicated to the Centennial of Taiwan R.O.C. (Republic of China). The Albatross TW 100 is a 300m GMT diver. It is equipped with a reliable Swiss automatic movement, the ETA 2836, which has been modified with a GMT function. Swiss C3 SuperLuminova has been applied to the hands, dial and bezel of the Albatross TW 100 to allow for full visibility and easy reading of the time in poor lighting conditions.
The white Taiwan Sun with its 12 sun-rays on a blue background is positioned at 10 o'clock position of the dial in celebration of Taiwan's 100th birthday, which will be on October 10th 2011 or 10.10. 1911 going by the Chinese calendar. Double Ten Day or 10.10.1911 also represents the Republic of China's Revolution day and is a national holiday here.
The red color of both second hand and GMT pointer recall the red color of the Taiwanese National Flag. At 6 o'clock the Chinese character '百' can bee seen, it translates literally as 'hundred'. The watch's caseback has a deep engraved 'Ilha Formosa' Formosa Island shape together along with watch's individual number of 100 pieces, which again relates to the centennial.
The watch comes presented in a special box, which includes a commemorative medal with the Taiwan Sun on one side and Taiwan's origin date on the other side. Very cool, I think I might just have to get one of these!
