moVas Diver (first look)

By TLex Singaporean, Sean Wai is first and foremost a perfectionist, he has been tweaking the design of his first dive watch for more than a year now, and has finally come up with something that he believes is ready to go into production and be released into a competitive boutique dive watch market. Not one to mince his words, either, he believes in originality not mimicry and proudly stands behind Asian made cases and movements.

Three variants of the moVas diver are planned, which will be produced in limited runs of 100 pieces of each. The overall aesthetic of the watches are clean, elegant and functional. They have a very contemporary feel to them. The cases unique and rugged; the sandwich dials have been very thoughtfully set out giving them a balanced and almost minimalist appearance. The moVas diver and the whole moVas philosophy breathes a welcome breath of fresh air, which I firmly believe will give them an edge and earn them much respect and admiration.

I look forward to meeting in person with Sean in the next couple of months. Stay tuned for a lot more on moVas . . .

From moVas "moVas or short for Movements of Asia represents 2 unique and distinct ideals; the representation of a young and progressive Asian brand integrating into the ideals of the western world and the rise of Asian Mechanical Movements in the design and manufacture of watches. moVas is possibly one of the first watch brands that has grown out of Singapore and branded proudly as made in Asia with an Asian movement.

Unlike a lot of other 'mushroom' brands which select an available case (normally a copy of a famous brand) and just designing a dial, everything on our watches are unique to moVas except for the movements. That includes all our cases, hands, crowns and even straps. It's the fascination with design and the affordability of creating our own designs that drives the brand.

All our watches pay tribute to the makers of each movement by having the movement numbers printed on the dials. We do not shy away from the fact that our watches bear Asian made mechanical movements but rather promote the idea of a new possibility. Each moVas carries a horological complication. Whether it is a power reserve, sub second, chronograph or jump hour, the design ideology is to create affordable and original complications for watch enthusiast previously unable or unwilling to spend on Swiss complications.

Discover our current designs, look forward to our new ones that push the boundaries of our imagination even further and above all, enjoy the experience of being part of a new way of thinking".
