By TLex Currently only available for the Japanese domestic market and Taiwan, the Galante range from Seiko is their new flagship collection, launched in February of this year. The Galante watches are highly sophisticated timepieces that house Seiko's latest Spring Drive calibers.
There are a number of GMT and Chronograph models, but I have chosen only to feature the three 200m Water-resistant models with unidirectional rotational bezels, the sports models or divers if you will. Not only are they incredibly unique and appealing, but they utilize Seiko's latest Spring Drive Caliber 5R65.
The Spring Drive caliber, was introduced to the world in 2005, it is the most important new movement created by SEIKO since the quartz Astron in 1969. SEIKO say it is based on the foundation of all mechanical watch technology, a mainspring, but incorporates an entirely new system for time regulation that delivers the equivalent to 1 second per day accuracy, and, uniquely, glide-motion hands that represent the continuous, even motion of time.
If you have ever seen a sweep second hand powered by a Seiko Spring Drive you will understand. It glides effortlessly and flawlessly, an incredibly smooth and perpetual motion and quite mesmerizing to watch.
The design and style of SEIKO Galante is as unique as the Spring Drive movement itself. Bold lines and soft circular shapes combine to create an elegant classic appearance. Three dimensional dials are clearly laid out and bold numerals or markers ensure readability at a glance. Stainless Steel & gold plated cases protect the heart of the Galante Collection, and the finest Cordovan, Ostleg & Crocodile straps compliment the appearance. For the divers a choice of three high quality rubber straps with deployment type clasps are available in black, gray or brown.
