NIVREL Tourbillon Shark Sea 3000m

42mm two-tone, Stainless steel and 18ct gold, housing a Swiss-made tourbillon. Sound like something you'd wanna take diving? Probably not! Did I mention that it's depth rated to 3000 meters?

Nivrel's Shark Sea is the latest dive watch to join the ever growing ranks of mechanicals with extreme depth ratings. At 3000m it sits along side the likes of Breitling's Avenger Seawolf and Girard-Perregaux's SHII Pro, or its German counterpart UTS München's 3000m.

It's only the second diving tourbillon to have been produced with such an extreme depth rating. The other is GP's SHII Pro Tourbillon, also rated to 3000m. Zenith's Defy Xtreme Tourbillon comes in a distant second rated to 1000m.

So what's the point? Why put a tourbillon in a dive watch at all? Why design it to endure such depths, when the most action it will probably ever see is when it's splashed under a running tap whilst its owner washes his hands at an exclusive men's club? Why make such a watch in the first place?

The short answer is, because they can. I like that answer! I take my hat off to Nivrel for making such a ballsy watch! Love it!

From NIVERAL 'Edition Nautique' The most important feature of our diving watches is their water-resistance. All timepieces of this collection are thoroughly tested to withstand 30 bar or more (depending on the model).

More important features are also the clearness of the display as well as the anticlockwise rotating bezel for setting the diving time. In order to provide a maximum of security and robustness, the screwed crowns as well as the screwed pushers of the chronograph model are small but very important details.
