A stealthy new German Submarine-steel constructed diver’s watch has surfaced from the depths.
This is the new DSub50 from German watchmaker, Damasko and it’s as hard as nails – scratch that; it is in fact considerably tougher than that.
The DSub50 boasts a watch case that has been manufactured from one of the toughest types of steel that there are, German Submarine Steel.
The DSub50’s entire hull has been built using austenitic submarine (Stainless) steel – sourced exclusively from Germany.
And what’s “austenitic” Stainless steel when it’s at home I hear you ask? The short answer to that is hardened steel with anti-magnetic properties.
In addition to being highly corrosion-resistant and being completely anti-magnetic, even when continuously immersed in seawater, it scores high in strength and ductility so an ideal choice for a diver’s watch.A happy result of the DSub50’s surface hardened and bead blasted case comes from its black DAMEST coating which lends the watch a stealthy black ops vibe which when combined with its black dial looks utterly badass.
Only the watch’s luminescent indexes which are with Luminova ™C1 X1 (white) as well as its double-domed Sapphire crystal with special dual-side AR-coating remain in focus providing readability, even in the adverse lighting conditions found at depth.
Meanwhile a unidirectional rotational diver’s bezel incorporates a patented safety system that uses ceramic ball grid elements that help to eliminate any unintentional readjustment of elapsed dive-time. DAMASKO screw-down crown system can also be easily operated underwater. The DSub50 has a both screw-down and case-back providing up to 30 bar (300 meters) of impermeability. The DSub50 is powered by the tried and tested DAMASKO manufacture caliber A26-2 with an autonomy of 42 hours.
The watch comes on a Damasko black rubber diver’s strap. MSRP in the EU is 2’255€ which includes VAT plus shipping costs. Delivery time 6 is weeks.
Thoughts? It’s good to know that Sinn doesn’t have a monopoly on German Submarine steel constructed dive watches, but why only German sub steel?
How about other types of NQ1 (Naval Quality 1) or HY-80 / 100 steels? If it’s good enough for nuclear subs it’s surely good enough for our wrists. But what do you think? Would you get one of these over a U1?
I prefer SINN
ReplyDeleteI have a DSub2 and absolutely love it! Such a beast of a watch and the bezel action is the best I've ever felt. No play and lines up exactly to each notch!
