CUERVO y SOBRINOS Buceador CARIBE

Summer is upon us, folks, so here’s an attractive new diver’s watch from the Swiss watch manufacture with Latin soul, Cuervo y Sobrinos.

Prepare yourselves for a dive into the waters of the Caribbean Sea with the new Buceador Caribe collection from Cuervo y Sobrinos – a collection of three diver’s models named after the Caribbean.

Each reference has been inspired by a different element of the Caribbean;

reference 2860.1AZ AKA Valadero for example echoes the cyan colored seas while ref. 2860.1AR AKA Cayo Coco looks to the pastel sands that surround Cuba’s aquatic world, and ref. 2860.3N AKA Coral Negro with its black DLC case offers a third option for those who are after a more utilitarian take on the style. The watches of the Buceador Caribe collection boast highly complex cases featuring a container-type construction that contributes to the model’s 200 meters of water resistance. The watch case which has been executed in Stainless steel and measures 43mm in diameter has a height of 15.8mm. It is topped with a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating. Meanwhile diver’s features include a lockable (via a switch between 3 and 4hrs) internal diver’s bezel with an elapsed 15min. dive time scale. Power comes from a CYS 5104 automatic movement which is based on a Peseux 224 with: 11 ½ ’’’, automatic, diameter: 25.6 mm, height: 4.6 mm, 38 hours, 28 jewels, 28800 A/h, oscillating weight with Côtes de Genève decoration, transferred logo.

Each of the three models comes with a gradient dial - Valadero is in turquoise blue with a yellow seconds hand - Cayo Coco is in a sand color with a red seconds hand - Coral Negro in black, also with a red seconds.

The case-back of the Buceador Caribe features an evocative freediver motif with schooling fish.

Finally each of these Caribbean Divers comes with its own high-gloss leather strap with contrasting underside – and delivered with 2x stainless pin buckles engraved with the CyS emblem. MSRP in the US is 3’300USD for each of the Steel models or 3’500USD for the DLC variant. Thoughts? It’s cool to see some solid diver-centric features such as those lovely chunky hands and oversized hour markers as well as the bezel-locking system. Honestly, I won’t be rushing out to buy one anytime soon but kudos to CyS for delivering an original design. But what do you think?
