Yes, folks it’s the same great flavor that we know and love, the same fine bouquet derived from the 1963 vintage of the same name; the one that was so perfectly synthesized as the 2020 DEEPSTAR –
only delivered (for 2022) in a new 39mm case size as per historic dimensions; however somewhere in between the smaller 37mm THREE HAND Deepstar that more accurately reflected sizes worn in the good ol’ days. You know the days when people were actually smaller in stature than nowadays.
I digress; the 2022 Aquastar Deepstar is faithfully recalls of one of the most influential dive watches of the 1960s.
A diver’s watch that boasted a unique and uncluttered mono compax (single sub-counter) dial combined with the small running indicator as well as Aquastar’s patented bezel with multiple dive decompression-tables.
All these features made the Deepstar Chronogrpah the inimitable and thus far unmatched vintage tool diver that it is, one whose design features have endured to this day.
Meanwhile the 2022 Deepstar combines all the elegance of the OG Deepstar from 1963 but with those contemporary features of the modern era Deepstar.
With an overall case dimension of 39mm by 49mm (lug-to-lug), it is perfectly sized between the 2020 Deepstar and the aforementioned three handed Deepstar II models.
While it retains all the proportions of the OG Deepstar from the 1960s, it makes use of a modern high-end Swiss Manufacture automatic movement, custom manufactured for the Deepstar by La Joux-Perret.
Like its predecessor the Valjoux 23, the new Deepstar movement is equipped with column wheel operated pushers giving the new Deepstar not only the practicality and versatility but also all the refinement you’d expect from a modern day Chronograph.
You can ORDER the new Deepstar 39mm Chronograph from Aquastar, now and they'll ship it out immediately. It is currently being offered for just 2’790USD over its regular price of 3’590USD.
Thoughts? The 39mm case size might seem small on paper but it sits at the sweet spot in Aquastar’s Deepstar trilogy.
While it has indeed come down a few millimeters from the larger model; as a chronograph model it will likely retain some of its bulk, so I guess it will still feel pretty substantial on wrist. If you know what I mean?
But what do you think? And what are your thoughts on case sizes?
