PANERAI Submersible Chrono Flyback MIKE HORN Edition

*IN CASE OF EMERGENCY BREAK ICE*

I’d happily gnaw right through that ice with my teeth to get to this new Submersible or would I?

This is the new Submersible Chrono Flyback Mike Horn Edition AKA PAM01291; the latest Panerai Submersible model made in collaboration with professional adventurer, Mike Horn.

When Panerai gave the Submersible its most comprehensive overhaul in recent years, the MIKE HORN Editions were right at front and center of that 2019 collection.

And now Mike gets to extend his substantial Panerai collection even further with the release of another stonking Submersible model bearing his name which dropped this week.

This latest PAM Mike Horn Edition with its fly-back chronograph complication and blue dial with yellow highlights recalls the Submersible 1950 POLE 2 POLE LE (the dial that is).

Its 47mm in diameter case follows the iconic 1950 Submersible style and has been created using a family favorite - lightweight, saltwater corrosion-resistant, hypoallergenic, Titanium.

The brushed finished case is equipped with a unidirectional rotational diver’s bezel with a matte-black ceramic inlay, as well as Panerai’s patented signature crown-locking device in Ti.

The crown btw is in a blue-colored composite material rather tradition steel. Water-resistance is 300m.

Instead of some adventures’ map, an epic scene or some cute ocean critter, this edition simply bears Mike Horn’s signature engraved on the the solid screw-down Titanium case-back – a bit boring, eh!

Meanwhile, power comes from a Panerai Manufacture Caliber P.9100 auto with a vertical clutch and a column to drive the chrono functions which include a handy Flyback feature.

This allows you to reset 'n' restart the stopwatch function with a single click of the chrono-pusher at 8hr. The P.9100 beats at 28’000vph and has 3-days of autonomy AKA 72hrs.

The watch is delivered with two straps; the first is a blue accordion-style rubber diver’s strap, the other is a bi-material UPCamo strap composed of rubber and camouflage fabric inspired by the uniforms of the Italian Navy. The 500 piece, Panerai Submersible Chrono Flyback Mike Horn Limited Edition ref. PAM01291 is packaged in a polar bear friendly, eco-box made of recycled plastic. MSRP is 20’500USD.

Thoughts? Honestly the case-back engraving is a bit of a letdown; otherwise it’s a helluva a watch. Panerai have released four new Submersible Chronos this year, but which one is your favorite or to put it simply Mike Horn or JIMMY CHIN
