PANERAI Submersible S BRABUS Black Ops EDITION [tuned to perfection?]

This is what happens when three worlds collide! Yes; the world of horology has crashed head on into the automotive and boating worlds, creating possibly one of the most brutal match ups, nay mashups we’ve seen in years but is it a 900 horse power roaring success or has it missed the boat? Germany’s high-performance car tuner, Brabus renowned for their not so subtle tinkering of Mercedes Benz models has teamed up with Panerai to create a new Submersible which could be the ultimate divers / drivers cross over model.

Inspired by the awesome Brabus Shadow Black Ops boats (pic bottom) this is the new Panerai Submersible S Brabus Black Ops Edition AKA PAM01240 –

the fruit of more than three years of research and development, the concept brings to life the two brands and their shared passion for the maritime world.

Two high-tech artisans at the top of their respective fields and one exceptional timepiece that is guaranteed to put hairs on your chest and if doesn’t do that then perhaps its 46k price-tag will at least make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up on end. Available in a limited series of just 100 pieces, the Submersible S Brabus Black Ops Edition incorporates the sporty Brabus color palette of gunmetal gray, black and red into Panerai’s composite, carbon-fiber AKA Carbotech Submersible case. Water-resistant to down to 300 meters below the surface, the watch boasts a patented polarized date display, a unidirectional rotating bezel for the calculation of immersion time, a GMT function, AM/PM indicator and three-days power reserve. The Panerai Submersible S Brabus Black Ops Edition is also a first for a Panerai timepiece as it features a skeletonized automatic movement, the in-house P.4001/S caliber with its Brabus branded off-centered oscillating weight in tungsten. Yes, until now all earlier PAM skeleton models were only hand-cranked not autos. The Panerai x Brabus lovechild is naturally branded with both names; Brabus logos can be found on the movement as well as the case-back and strap. Talking of straps, the watch comes with a Panerai Sportech strap in Caoutchouc grey with contrasting anthracite hand-stitching. MSRP for the new Panerai Submersible S Brabus Black Ops Edition PAM01240 is a cool 46,200USD which is about as much as the new 2021 VW Golf 8 R with the sports pack. Thoughts? This is a beastly looking watch; it perfectly captures the Brabus brand while remaining very much a Panerai Submersible and as far as being a skeletonized diver’s watch, the display remains remarkably legible.

But unless I already had the car, the boat or the cash (the latter being the operative) I’d prefer to stick with one of Panerai’s less conspicuous Submersibles like THIS

But do you think – sink or swim?
