Okay, I’ll come clean; it isn’t actually a moon diver and the aforementioned body of water is as dry as bone, so no moon diving unless you’re on Titan that is . . . I digress;
however what we do have here is a rather intriguing new Limited Edition Aquis diver with a display for the lunar cycle and tidal range.
The watch which is known as the Dat Watt Limited Edition and was created with the Common Wadden Sea Secretariat and its mission to conserve the Wadden Sea, the world’s largest tidal system and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The Dat Watt LE which is based on an Aquis diver’s watch takes its rather unusual (at least in English) name from the local dialect for the Wadden Sea.
And where exactly is the Wadden Sea when it’s at home, I here you ask? It’s the southeastern portion of the North Sea stretching between northwestern continental Europe and a range of low-lying Frisian Islands –
that form a shallow body of water with tidal flats and wetlands which just happens to be an area of outstanding natural beauty and home to a load of lovely little birdies which include several species Gulls, Terns, Plovers and Spoonbills etc.
Btw the 2,009 piece series marks the year in which the Wadden Sea was awarded its UNESCO World Heritage Site status.
Special features of the Dat Watt Limited Edition watch include its rather complex yet charming dial display with the lunar cycle and tidal range in the Northern Hemisphere thanks to an Oris-developed Pointer Moon function, created for professional divers.
This works using a central white pointer hand that once aligned with the correct day in the 29.5-day lunar cycle, shows the corresponding tidal range via the white outline on the dial.
The same hand also indicates the waxing and waning of the moon because at least in my experience; whether you’re a diver, a surfer or simply want to avoid any roaming lunatics or werewolves – it’s nice to know when the next full moon is.
The dial itself is realized in a very lovely grey blue color; meanwhile the case which is water-resistant to 300m measures 43.5mm in diameter and is home to the Oris 761 automatic movement.
Turning the watch over we can see a wetlands motif showing the Wadden Sea in all of its glory.
Finally the Dat Watt LE is supplied in a special presentation box and has a Swiss retail price of 2’450CHF and will available from May 2021.
Thoughts? I know this might come across as a little disingenuous but sometimes I get bored starring down at a blank watch face, so it’s kinda’ cool to have a diver’s watch with an interesting display – I like it.
But what do you think; are you diver come twitcher? This might be the perfect watch for you!
