LONGINES HydroConquest Two-Tone BLACK 41MM

Introducing the chromatic DUO! In fact there’s a trio (four even if we include the new two-tone bracelet) of new looks available for the HydroConquest collection for 2021 – this here is Rose Gold plus black. The existing blue, grey, black and green variations of the HydroConquest collection are joined by two-tone variations in Stainless steel and rose PVD or steel and yellow PVD for an additional touch of bling. Yes, Longines have decided to give their modern flagship diver’s watch collection, the HydroConquest line a bit a bling for the New Year with some new two-tone gold PVD variants – so not true bling but at least the look’s there if that’s what you’re into. While these watches might have a dressier appearance than their all-steel siblings, they remain every bit the consummate diver’s / water-sports watches references with: a water-resistance to 300 meters and equipped with a unidirectional rotational diver’s bezel, a screw-down crown and case-back, and a double security folding clasps with an integrated diver’s extension piece. The HydroConquest which received its last major revision in 2018 includes more than forty model variants and the family will likely grow more still if additional two-tone variants are created as chronographs. Whether as a blue, grey, black or green variant, each HydroConquest now comes with a streamlined design thanks to a bezel featuring a ceramic insert in the same color as its dial. And to further extend the diversity of the collection, the watches are also available on black, blue or green rubber straps. The black dial watch can be seen here on a two-tone Rose Gold PVD Stainless steel link bracelet which is also new. The full range of dials for the two-tone models includes: grey, blue or black sunray as well as matte green, each two-tone variation of the HydroConquest line is equipped with an exclusive self-winding movement (L888.5) featuring an Si (silicon) balance-spring to guaranteeing a higher degree of precision, a longer life span as well as magnetic-resistance.

Thoughts? I don’t even particularly like the look of real gold, so I’m not sold on PVD bling but they are what they are and the HydroConquest is starting to finally come into its own after so many years of being a bit boring which it still is.

Well, it’s no Seamaster but on the plus side it’s no Seastar either which is probably why the Swatch Group have positioned it bang in the middle them. But what do you think?
