SEIKO Prospex Divers 140th Anniversary EDITIONS Refs SLA047 SPB207 & SSC807

When you’re one of if not the World’s largest watch company with a history dating back say 140 years, you can pretty much celebrate an anniversary of something every year –

this is why Seiko have been doing an awful celebrating of late. Last year they were celebrating their diver’s watch line, this year it is exactly 140 years since Kintaro Hattori who was just 21yrs old at the time, founded his watch company and opened his first manufacturing facility.

Kicking off the celebrations is a series of Prospex diver’s watches inspired by the beauty of Iriomote Island in Okinawa Prefecture with its abundant coral reefs teeming with marine life as well as the island’s primeval and pristine mangrove forests that surround it.

A trio of Limited Edition Prospex diver’s watches that are inspired by the island of Iriomote are refs. SPB207, SLA047, SSC807.

They draw upon the island’ reefs, jungle, mangrove forests, beaches, rivers and waterfalls which are all reflected in their lovely deep green dials.

Within the collection is a pair of mechanical diver’s which are based on Seiko’s celebrated 1968 diver’s model.

One is a 300 meter water resistant, eight beat diver’s watch with a unique one-piece case structure, the other a 200m with six beat.

Suitable for saturation as well as SCUBA, the 300m model is made, assembled and adjusted by the skilled craftsmen and women of Shizukuishi and powered by Caliber 8L35, which btw was created specifically for use inside Prospex diver’s models.

The second mechanical watch is a contemporary reinvention of the 1968 original. It houses a six beat caliber and is 200 meter water resistant.

Both are offered as Limited Editions, of 3000 and 6000 pieces, respectively.

The third model in the series is a 200m solar chronograph. It is also too a Limited Edition of 4000 pieces.

All three models come equipped with Stainless steel link bracelets as well as an additional Prospex back silicone diver’s strap.

All three watches will be available from March 2021 from Seiko Boutiques and selected Seiko retailers, worldwide.

Prices in the EU are as follows: SLA047 - 3’300, € SPB207 – 1’400€, SSC807 - 790€.

Thoughts? Green is the new blue – well it’s certainly the thinking man’s blue and for me it is every bit as evocative of the marine world as blue. These dial colors are stunning. What do you think?

  1. I just wish they would do 1 time only version.

No date window...just a pure tool watch.
