UNIMATIC Modello Due U2-NC x NIGEL CABOURN

The King of the Hipsters has teamed up with Unimatic to create a hot new Modello Due, field watch that has been inspired by somewhere rather cold.

British fashion designer, Nigel Cabourn known for his vintage inspired clothing and outerwear and Italian watch brand, Unimatic have collaborated on the new UN-NC.



The watch is inspired by the Commonwealth Trans-Antarctic Expedition of 1955–1958, a Commonwealth-sponsored expedition that successfully completed the first overland crossing of Antarctica, via the South Pole.



Made in Italy the new Modello Due U2-NC field watch features a highly readable Navy Blue dial with a SuperLumiNova Cream Old Radium-coated hands and markers, a gold open second rail and dial trims.

Time is displayed thanks to the navy blue ladder phantom H+M, reverse lollipop S with a gold tip.



Its 38.5mm in diameter 316 Stainless steel case features a special stonewashed Olive drop Cerakote coating. Cerakote is a ceramic based finish that can be applied to metals, plastics, wood etc.

The formulation used for Cerakote ceramic coating enhances a number of physical performance properties including abrasion/wear, corrosion and chemical resistance, impact strength, and hardness.



Many of the U2-NC details have been influenced by the historical route taken by the explorers which can be found on the case-back that features an Antarctica blueprint map as well as a two piece nylon strap in Safety Orange.



The case is fitted with a 2.7mm thick highly-double domed anti-reflective Sapphire crystal, a screwed-in 2mm thick case-back, an 8mm diameter crown together with high quality gaskets provide a tested water-resistance tested to 300 meters.



Power comes from a Seiko Japan NH35A automatic movement tuned to 21600bph with 41h power-reserve and hacking seconds.



The watch comes on a vintage Safety Orange nylon two piece X stitched strap plus a Navy Blue nylon two piece X stitched strap with a Stonewashed Cerakote O.D. green Unimatic signed buckle.



The case-back features the Unimatic X Nigel Cabourn Antarctica and the individual serial number out of a Limited Edition of 150 pieces.

The U2-NC is sold only at selected Nigel Cabourn STORES throughout China and Japan.



Thoughts? I’m no hipster but this speaks to me – it looks good – plain as!

Unimatic seemingly came out of nowhere – their wristwatches aren’t of a particularly high spec. they are in fact imho quite overpriced for what they are but their styling is always on point and they have done some interesting collabs.



This is arguably their finest. What do you think? Another overpriced fashion watch for hipsters and hypebeasts or a solid offering???
