Omega officially released them last week, on Halloween – the spooky release date has no real significance that I know of;
unless of course you’re easily scared by big numbers, like those north of 37K, for example! This is the Lapis Lazuli, the better looking and more expensive of the two.
While it is not at all scary looking (in fact it is quite lovely), it does have quite a scary price-tag owing to its Platinum-Gold case.
Lapis Lazuli is an intensely deep blue semi-precious stone. It is composed of Lazurite, which gives it a amazing ultramarine color and was once described by Marco Polo as the finest azure in the world.
The stone has been used by royal dynasties since antiquity, especially in ancient Egypt, where it was carved and polished into statues and other important objects.
In balance with the Lapis Lazuli dial, Omega has crafted the 41mm case of this SM300 in Platinum-Gold.
The facetted hands are in 18K white gold, while the bezel ring is polished blue ceramic with a platinum Liquidmetal dive-time scale.
The watch is presented on a blue leather strap and is powered by the Omega Co-Axial Master Chronometer Caliber 8913.
The movement and the full watch have been officially certified by the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS).
This Seamaster Lapis Lazuli has a Swiss MSRP of 37’500CHF!!!!
Thoughts? Why Platinum? I guess if I have to ask I don’t understand the point. Nice but quite unnecessary what do you think?
