Named after the gentle giant of the sea, this is the new Oris Blue Whale, a Limited Edition dive watch based on the Aquis chronograph of which it is the first model to have a 3, 6 and 9 dial layout.
As part of Oris’ ongoing Oceans Project, The Blue Whale LE forms the last piece in the Ocean Trilogy collection of which we have already seen:
the Clean Ocean Limited Edition and the Great Barrier Reef Limited Edition III watches which were released earlier this year at Baselworld 2019.
While those divers focused on restoring coral reefs and cleaning the world’s ocean, the Blue Whale Limited Edition is aimed at protecting the world’s largest animal, the Blue Whale.
Six out of 13 great whale species are classified as endangered. Over a thousand whales are killed every year for commercial purposes despite the moratorium on whaling.
Only as few as 10,000 blue whales are thought to be left in our oceans. If we can’t protect them, what hope is there for the health of our oceans?
The Blue Whale Limited Edition has been produced in partnership with WDC AKA Whale and Dolphin Conservation, the leading charity dedicated to the protection of whales and dolphins.
Based on the Oris Aquis diver’s watch, it has a 45.5mm Stainless steel case water-resistant to 500 meters, an aqua blue ceramic bezel and a graduated aqua blue dial.
Inside it is an automatic Swiss Made chronograph movement, powering the first ever Aquis 3, 6 and 9 chronograph dial layout.
Its case-back carries an embossed Blue Whale and the Limited Edition number of 200 pieces.
The Blue Whale LE is only available as part of the Oris Ocean Trilogy set, which comes in a special presentation box made of recycled PET plastic.
Presented alongside the Oris Great Barrier Reef Limited Edition III and the Oris Clean Ocean Limited, it has a Swiss retail price of 9600CHF and is available as of June 2019.
