The JLC Memovox is back and this time it isn’t a tribute watch as such, it’s an actual new watch, a contemporary re-design of a Grande Maison classic from 1968 but with all the latest JLC mechanical tech.
So, yeah, it is a kind a tribute to the iconic Polaris Memovox from a bygone era and yes, it’s more very nicely redone vintage from JLC, I am not exactly gushing, but to be fair, it is an exceptional watch with some really nice modern touches.
Basic spec. includes: a 42mm by 15.9mm Stainless steel case which is water-resistance to 20 bar – (holy sh!t finally a proper 200m WR, I’m shocked!)
Power comes from an automatic, self-winding, Cal. 956 made up of 268 components and with 28800 vph and 23 jewels.
And now to the best part – the 2018 Polaris Memovox watch is equipped with an alarm, indicated by a small triangle on a rotating disk in the center of the dial.
Simply, pull the crown at 2 o'clock and turn it counter-clockwise to rotate the disk and align the triangle with the desired time. To wind the mechanism, push back the crown and turn it clockwise.
Its case-back bears two engravings: a delicate stylized diving helmet, a nod to the original model that hid this same symbol inside its case; and a 50th anniversary an inscription to commemorate the date the Memovox Polaris timepiece was created in 1968.
I was hoping for an update of the JLC Diving collection, perhaps that will come next year. So until then we’ll have to make do with the incredible new Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Memovox which is a Limited Series of 1000 editions and has an MSRP of 12600USD.
