Zurich based, Maurice de Mauriac have added a proper divers watch to their collection. I say proper because they have created a number of watches that have 300 meters of water-resistance,
not really pseudo divers because they bear little resemblance to the archetypal dive watch dive but nevertheless belonging to their Divers Series.
However the new L2 is the first watch from the brand that not only looks the part but is also equipped with all the attributes that you might expect to find on a dive watch these days
– a unidirectional rational divers bezel, a Helium Escapee Valve – even a marine reference in the shape of a cute Sea lion that can be found on the L2’s case-back.
The L2 is kind of based on the L1 from Daniel Dreifuss and designer Fabian Schwaerzler which they have taken to the next level in this instance to create the L2 Diver.
The L2’s 42mm case comes in three different materials – surgical-grade Stainless steel, anthracite DLC Coated Steel or Bronze. It has a depth-rating of 300m.
Providing visibility for the watch dial is a cambered Sapphire crystal, which has an anti-glare coating on both sides. The hands and hour-markers glow with a distinctive and intense blue tone in the dark. Power comes from a Swiss ETA 2824 automatic movement.
The L2 can be purchased online from Maurice de Mauriac store. It is available with either a Nylon NATO or a hand-stitched high-quality leather band priced as follows. Steel – CHF 3'770 / DLC – CHF 4'680 Bronze – CHF 5'570 .
That’s some pretty optimistic pricing I think you’ll agree especially when you compare it to something like the MONTA Oceanking which imho is a far superior watch with an Eterna Cal. 39 that comes in a good couple of hundred under the L2 Steel.
