Oris have launched a new Aquis; the Aquis Small Second, Date with its striking combination of ocean-evocative coloring and high-tech materials is a pretty stunning addition to the Aquis family of divers.

At first glance it put me in mind of THIS and THIS. However on reflection, sunray or sunburst dials which offer a similar effect to the above are nothing new.
HERE’s a gorgeous UTS example and ANOTHER looker from HEXA. However one thing’s for sure, when combined with just the right tone of blue – they don’t have make you wanna go for a dive!

Divers features of the new Aquis Small Second, Date include: a robust 46mm multi-piece Stainless steel case with a water-resistant to 50 bar (500M) – made possible by a thick scratch-resistant double-domed Sapphire crystal domed on with anti-reflective coating its inside and a screwdown crown and caseback. The caseback is engraved with a meters to feet conversion scale.

The reason that the crystal has a dome on both sides, and has been treated with an anti-reflective coating on its inside, is to reduce glare and maximize legibility.

The watch is also fitted with a unidirectional rotational divers bezel with a polished scratch-resistant black ceramic inlay and white dive-time scale. Divers rely on this secure device to monitor remaining oxygen levels and decompression stops.

In keeping with Oris’s philosophy of only making mechanical watches, the Aquis Small Second, Date is powered by an automatic mechanical movement with a sub-seconds indictor at 9 o’clock and a date function at 6 o’clock.

The sub-second function is often favored by divers because while it shows that the watch is operating, it doesn’t clutter the dial or reduce legibility.

The new Aquis Small Second, Date comes on a Stainless steel bracelet with folding divers clasp, but is also available with black rubber divers strap. Its Swiss Retail Price is 2200CHF.
