XICORR Garfish 1stLOOK

By TLex XICORR of Poland a have a new diver in the works. The Garfish project has just completed its design phase with some of its components already being prototyped as well as most of its technical specifications finalized.



The Garfish has been designed as 'real' diver in so much that it was designed in cooperation with Polish technical diver, Darek Wilamowski, who on September 10th 2012, DOVE down to the incredible depth 243 meters below Italy’s lake Garda.




He was equipped with a XICORR prototype watch, the GARDA, which later became the Garda 243M Limited Edition DIVER, named in recognition of his remarkable descent into the depths of Lake Garda.




Here’s what we know about the new Garfish: it will have a huge Stainless steel case measuring 52mm in diameter with a thickness of 17mm, which is fairly apt if we consider that it was designed as a diving instrument.




Its water-resistance is expected to be rated between 50 to 100atm. It will be interesting if it’s the latter because there is only one (possibly two) OTHER 52mm+ sized mechanical diver with 1000 meters of water-resistance. I can't immediately recall any that are over 1000m with such a case size;




the reason being that the Sapphire crystal starts to get quite expensive to produce, which leads to me to my next point – because the Garfish's dial is relatively small a thick Sapphire crystal can be used without it being too costly.




Further features of its case include: a screwed crown and a Helium Escape Valve at 9 o’clock. It will house a Japanese Miyota 8218 automatic mechanical movement with sub-seconds at 12 o’clock and a date aperture at 9.30.



Proposed color options are as follows: a grey dial with either orange or blue hands, an orange dial with black hands or a blue dial with black hands.




It's certainly another quirky design from Xicorr, but no less evocative of diving than anything else. It's good to see the Garda's DNA being carried over, too. The Garfish should be available during the 3rd quarter of 2014. Please note that at this early stage, specifications are subject to change. Price: TBD.
