Môntrèk Watches

By TLex Yet another Longio cased dive watch line is pushed out into the market. And the waters in which our dive watches were intended become a little murky. That is until a little research is done and eventually visibility is restored. I now have a better understanding of what Longio have been up to.

Firstly let me say I have experienced first hand a number Longio divers and have been very happy with the build quality. I have no qualms about wearing Chinese made either. But I really don't see the need for so much of the same product under different names and guises. Someone does, tho.

I can't find a thing about Môntrèk so far. There's no website, no company background or history that I know of either. This is probably because like VM Dive Watches,
Môntrèk are actually Longio, and are more than likely based in the same Kowloon offices in Hong Kong as Longio and VM Dive Watches.

Môntrèk are currently being sold by KenmarWatches and WatchWare.com, both well known online watch outlets, actually they are both one in the same company but for names sake.

When I buy a watch I want to know something about the company and their history. Especially if that product is expensive. Môntrèk's range retails on line from 600USD upwards. In my opinion their whole range has been heavily over priced.

Especially when taken into account the fact that exactly the same product can still be bought online, and direct from some of the watch companies themselves, and at a fraction of what Kenmar and WatchWare are selling it for.

Take this model for example, for all intense and purposes it's the same as the DEEP BLUE Master Explorer PVD; same case, movement, carbon dial, bracelet, clasp and of course same manufacturer - Longio.

The Master Explorer can be picked up from DEEP BLUE Watches, reduced from 499USD to 299USD. A very sweet deal, I have one already.

However the Môntrèk version will set you back a whopping 1100USD! What gives? I just don't get. Shouldn't Longio check to see how much their product is already being sold for online by third parties before giving the go ahead for others to sell the same product for more than 3 times the price. And online, too!

Môntrèk, dig your watches, NOT your pricing strategies!
