GLASHÜTTE ORIGINAL SeaQ Panorama Date RED GOLD & BI-COLOR

Glashütte Original has extended their SeaQ diver’s family to include a couple luxurious new models for 2020, one in solid Red Gold and a second with mix of Stainless steel and Gold elements.

Inspired by the first diver’s watch made in Glashütte, the Spezimatic Type RP TS 200 from 1969, the SeaQ collection made its debut last year. It is the manufactory’s first dedicated diver, in literally decades.

Falling under GO’s “Spezialist” collection, there are three SeaQ models with these latest RG and Bi-Color boys joining the Panorama Date family.

There are a ton variants with these new models boosting the collection to a total of 15 which includes the 1969 Limited Edition as well as Panorama Date in blue.

The new Red Gold and Bi-Color SeaQ Pan. Dates (bling aside) were designed to offer a high level of contrast with black and gold elements:

the hands, Arabic numerals and rod indexes on the black dial with sunray finish feature galvanic gold surfaces.

The rotational diver’s bezel’s ceramic ring with its white lacquer inlay along with the generous use of white lumed highlights as well as the Panorama Date’s white numerals set against a black backdrop further ensure maximum levels of contrast and clarity.

The galvanic grey dial of the Bi-Color model, which is also enhanced with a sunray finish, echoes the silver-grey hue of its Stainless steel case.

The rotating bezel and the crown have both been fashioned in Red Gold, complementing the cool shades of grey. Galvanic gold numerals, appliques and hands on the dial provide additional bling.

The SeaQ Panorama Date is water-resistant up to 300m, making it suitable even for professional divers. Several key diver’s elements such as: the screw-down crown and the centrally screwed Sapphire crystal case-back, help to bolster water-resistance.

As a dedicated diver’s watches, the new SeaQ Panorama Date models of course feature unidirectional rotational bezels with a dive-time scale. In this instance the bezel is made from Red Gold with said ceramic inlay.

The SeaQ Panorama Date is powered by GO’s award-winning Caliber 36. The 36-13 version beats within a 43.2mm Red Gold or Stainless steel case, optimized to incorporate GO’s four principles of accuracy, stability, running time and aesthetics.

Thanks to its bayonet mounting the movement is anchored in the case in a particularly secure manner and features an impressive 100hrs of autonomy, while the Si balance spring ensures reliable and high rate precision.

The SeaQ Panorama Date meets the most rigorous German and international quality standards. Each watch undergoes intensive in-house testing to ascertain its water-resistance and airtightness under over- and under pressure conditions.

During a prior homologation procedure, a number of test watches were examined to determine their shock-resistance, resistance to salt-water corrosion and the resilience of individual functional elements, among other aspects.

This means that not only do the watches meet the stringent DIN and ISO standards for diver’s watches; they must also submit to and successfully complete a demanding 24-day test, the GO excellence test.

This includes a simulation of the conditions of everyday wear, and a 12-day monitoring of rate precision in six different positions. An individual certificate provides evidence of this test.

Both models are available with a waterproof grey nylon mesh strap developed especially for the SeaQ or with a black rubber strap with an embossed pattern.

MSRP in USD for the new SeaQ Panorama Date Rose Gold is the best part of 28 and a half grand while the Bi-Color can be had for a smidgen over 17.1K.

Thoughts? Even if I had that sort of money lying around to drop on a new GO diver, I would choose one of the Stainless steel variants all day long.

Still both Red Gold & B-Color models are just as competent, and have been just as rigorously tested as their humble steel siblings, which is pretty impressive.

However their use of gold naturally makes them less rugged and hard-wearing, so perhaps not really ideal for diving?

Anyway, what do you think – which is your favorite SeaQ?
