OMEGA Seamaster PLANET OCEAN 36th America’s Cup LIMITED EDITION

Omega has just announced that they will be the Official Timekeeper of the 36th America’s Cup.

If you’re a swanky Swiss watch brand, there is no better way to celebrate your continued partnership, than with the release of a brand new Limited Edition diver’s watch.

And once again the platform for this Limited Edition, ocean racing timepiece is Omega’s flagship diver’s watch, the Planet Ocean which if I am not mistaken will be celebrating its 15th birthday this year!

I don’t think you need to be a fan yachting to know of the famous America’s Cup. The race dates all the way to 1851, and is the oldest trophy in international sport - fiercely fought over by revival teams.

2021 will be the 36th edition of the “Auld Mug” with Swiss watchmaker, Omega once again proudly announcing its role as the event’s Official Timekeeper.

Btw this is now the third occasion that Omega has been the timekeeper of this prestigious sailing event, ever since the brand begun its partnership with Emirates Team New Zealand in 1995.

Along with the timekeeping announcement comes the release of the new Seamaster Planet Ocean 36th America’s Cup Limited Edition watch.

This is presented on a specially structured rubber strap. The 43.5mm PO has been crafted from Stainless steel and comes in Limited Edition series 2,021 pieces.

Special features included: the blue ceramic diver’s bezel, which incorporates white and red liquid ceramic to create a 5-minute countdown for racing.

While the dial comes in polished white ceramic which includes the competition’s name printed at 6 o’clock along with a special America’s Cup logo which has been placed on the counterweight of the central seconds hand.

Meanwhile on the reverse side, the America’s Cup logo is once again printed on the case-back’s Sapphire crystal, through which you can see the Master Chronometer Caliber 8900.

Just like any other PO, the watch has a water-resistance to 600m and is equipped with a Sapphire crystal with AR (inside and outside), as well as a manual Helium Escape Valve which can be found at 10 o’clock.

The 36th America's Cup is set to take place in March 2021. Competitors will sail in AC75, 75 foot foiling monohulls, with the course stretching across Auckland’s Waitemata Harbour in New Zealand.

The Planet Ocean 36th America’s Cup LE Reference: 215.32.43.21.04.001 has a Swiss MSRP of 6’500CHF.

Are you a fan of the PO, or perhaps you like yachting inspired divers? Here are two such watches, the PO ETNZ and the PO Deep Black RED for the Volvo Race.

Also have you seen one of the World's deepest mechanical diver's, also based on the PO, check out the ULTRA DEEP.
