BALTIC Aquascaphe

Here’s a diver that we looked at all too briefly 18 months or so back, so here’s another (proper) look at the AQUASCAPHE from Baltic. The Aquascaphe is Baltic’s first diver.

The 39mm in diameter watch is a vintage inspired dive watch that is based on their current HMS/Bicompax cases however with a unique BOR (beads of rice) bracelet.

The Aquascaphe comes with all the charm of a vintage timepiece however in the form of a modern tool-watch.

Its case which is water-resistant to 200 meters is fitted with a double domed Sapphire crystal while its unidirectional diver’s bezel also has a Sapphire inlay recalling the look of old school Bakelite.

Dimensions are as follows: a diameter of 38mm at the case and 39mm with the bezel, with a 47mm lug to lug measurement and a thickness of just 12mm.

There are three Aquascaphe models to choose from: a sunray blue dial with gilt, a grain black dial with cream, and a grain black dial with silver.

All the Aquascaphe’s hands and markers are with green-glowing Super-Luminova. In addition, bezel markers (15/30/45) are also luminous.

Powering the Aquascaphe is a Miyota 9039 without date. This robust caliber which is just 3.9mm in height has a power-reserve of 42hrs and has been adjusted in-house.

The Aquascaphe is available with either a rubber Tropic-style strap or a 20mm Stainless steel BOR bracelet with a clasp that offers 7x micro-adjustments.

All Baltic watches are assembled by hand in France, near Besançon, by professional and experienced watchmakers.

The Baltic Aquascaphe has a price of approx. 580€.

Thoughts? I absolutely love the look of the watch; design-wise I’d say they’ve nailed it. Spec. seems really good, too.

Personally 39mm is a little too small plus no matter how good an adjusted 9039 is, it isn’t Swiss – that’s just me. What do you think?

Make sure you watch the video – I think it’s one of the coolest and most atmospheric dive watch vids I’ve seen in a long while. Brilliant script, fantastic voiceover; was literally hanging on every word!
