18 years on and Oris has resurrected arguably one their most iconic divers models, ever. The original Oris regulator dive watch was the first of its kind providing divers with a useful, highly legible tool-diver that could be relied upon under the most hazardous of underwater conditions – it is back!
Introducing the 2017 Regulateur Der Meistertaucher or Master Diver Regulator which works on the simple principle that besides water-resistance, the most vital feature of any divers watch is its ability to quickly and accurately display dive-time. It is precisely for this reason that Oris has created and now redesigned the new Regulateur Der Meistertaucher.
The 2017 Regulateur Der Meistertaucher boasts non-coaxial hands, meaning the hour and minute hands are unconnected to each other. The minute hand is in the center of the dial, while the hour is shown via a hand is on a sub-dial at 3 o’clock.
This isolates a key piece of information for a diver, who can set dive-time by lining up the minute hand to the 60-minute dive-time scale on the unidirectional rotational divers bezel, which in this case is fitted with a modern black ceramic insert with a red 15-min scale and white markings.
The new Regulateur Der Meistertaucher combines the same qualities found in the 1999 version with all the features of the latest generation of AQUIS which was released earlier this year.
Like all the new Aquis models, it has a sleeker silhouette than the previous Aquis, and has also been given a number of functional enhancements, including an upgrade that makes the bezel easier to grip and adjust.
However like the 1999 version, the 2017 Regulateur Der Meistertaucher once again has a lightweight Titanium case and bracelet. The minute hand of this new model has a bright red outline that corresponds to the critical 15-minute scale on the bezel, and to the red rubber strap option.
The result is a divers watch where that the wearer’s eye is immediately drawn to the minute hand, allowing the watch supremely high levels of legibility.
As a professional dive watch, the Regulateur Der Meistertaucher has an automatic Helium Escape Valve, located on the side of the case at 9 o’clock. Automatic HEV’s are used by professional SAT divers who can live in chambers filled with Helium-enriched air for weeks at a time during saturation dives.
As well as an HEV, the Regulateur Der Meistertaucher has one final and often overlooked feature of a divers watch, a small seconds indicated by a hand coated in SuperLumiNova at 9 o’clock, a feature divers rely on to show the watch is still operating. The watch’s automatic movement also provides a date indication at 6 o’clock.
Finally the watch has a Titanium case-back embossed with the Oris shield and the inscription ‘MEISTERTAUCHER’ (master diver).
It is presented in a water-resistant case with a red replacement strap and strap-changing tools. It will be available in May priced 3100CHF.
