MIDO Ocean Star Caliber 80 TITANIUM

Once again Mido has chosen TITANIUM for one of their new divers models. The Ocean Star Caliber 80 Titanium Ref. M026.430.47.061.00 boasts a new robust lightweight case made from Titanium.

I’m not sure if this is Titanium Grade 2 or the higher aerospace Grade 5. Either way, Titanium is considerably lighter and tougher than Stainless steel and is also hypoallergenic meaning that it’s going to be very comfy on your wrist.



With a diameter of 42.5mm, the polished and satin-finished Titanium case of the Ocean Star Caliber 80 Titanium is of course home to Mido’s Caliber 80, the latest-generation automatic movement with up to 80 hours of power reserve.

The Caliber 80 is based on an ETA C07.621 with 25 jewels, 21,600 vph, a NIVAFLEX NM mainspring and an ELINCHRON II balance-spring. This finely decorated Elaboré-grade movement also has blued screws and decorated rotor with Geneva stripes and the Mido logo.



The Ocean Star Caliber 80 Titanium’s grained anthracite dial is protected by a Sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment on both sides. It features a window indicating the day and date at 3 o’clock.

There are several touches of orange on the dial, bezel and tip of the seconds hand, together with the orange strap, perhaps a subtle nod to Mido’s brand identity while furthering the watches diving prowess.



Diving features include: water-resistance up to a pressure of 20 bars or 200m, a unidirectional rotational divers bezel and a divers strap that features a folding clasp also made from Titanium plus a divers extension.

For maximum safety, the dial is equipped with a unidirectional rotating bezel that features a sandblasted anthracite aluminum inlay used to measure dive-time. This inlay also features a white SuperLumiNova dot at 12 o’clock.



White SuperLumiNova has also been used for the hour-markers and hour and minute hands to guarantee perfect readability, both underwater and at night – while the tip of the seconds indicator has bene applied with orange SuperLumiNova.

Finally the Ocean Star Caliber 80 Titanium’s case-back is sports a starfish, the symbol of the Ocean Star collection – a final cute detail will likely appeal to all those who love exploring the ocean depths.
