ROLEX Sea-Dweller Ref. 1665 [owned by Philippe COUSTEAU]

By TLex A very well used, slightly battered and ultimately rare Rolex Sea-Dweller Ref. 1665 that was previously owned by underwater filmmaker and oceanographer, Philippe Cousteau; is to be auctioned by Antiquorum (Lot 199), the world's leading watch auctioneers at the Hoyt Building, New York on September the 30th as part their 'Important Modern and Vintage Timepieces' auction.

One of the most important dive watches of the 2nd half of the 20th century, the Rolex Sea-Dweller was the first divers model to use a Helium Escape Valve (HEV). Early Sea-Dwellers have become highly collectible watches with the earliest examples being the most sought after.

The one being offered in Antiquorum's auction has one of the earliest serial numbers (1'602'920), placing it in the same era as the legendary Single Red Sea-Dwellers, of which only six are known to exist. Not only this, but it has the added cachet of being owned by Philippe Cousteau, son of celebrated oceanographer and father of the first underwater breathing apparatus, Jacques Cousteau.

The rare Sea-Dweller with it Double-Red Sea-Dweller logo at 6 o'clock is estimated to fetch between 100,000 and 150,000USD! Click on the link embedded, below to find out more . . .
