OCEAN CRAWLER Champion Diver

Here’s a quick look at a diver I recently came across on Instagram that intrigued me – the Champion Diver from US based, Ocean Crawler.

It had to pass ten different drop tests before its launch. The most severe of which was high impact hammer test. This shock-testing equipment submits the watch to an impact equivalent to 6,000 G - hundreds of times more than a car crash test.

Yet the watch must remain intact and fully functional afterwards, while maintaining a high standard of accuracy in order to pass!

Powering the Champion Diver is a Caliber OC729, based on a modified Seiko 4R36b movement enhanced for added accuracy and shock resistance with a power-reserve 44 hours – up 3hrs from 41. The movement has an accuracy of +/- 5 seconds/day in 3 positions.

Divers features of the Champion Diver include: 44.2mm in diameter by 15mm thick 316L Stainless steel case with a lug-to-lug measurement 51.8mm.

This is fitted with a 120-click unidirectional divers bezel and 45mm thick, domed Sapphire crystal. Water-resistance is 1000 feet AKA 300m.

Based on its looks and the intensive testing it seemed like a pretty interesting proposition – then I saw it on Amazon optimistically priced at 999USD – ouch!

What do you think? The name ‘’Champion’’ Diver maker me think of racing whippets – champion!
