TEMPEST Viking (intro)

By TLex In April of this year I posted some drawings of a new diver called the TEMPEST Viking; today I am very pleased to introduce TEMPEST and announce their first dive watch project, the Viking. TEMPEST designed the Viking using more traditional hand drawn methods, this can at times be a painstaking process, but what you end up is far more organic looking design; if you refer to my original post in the link above you can see some of these drawings as well as the engineer’s drafts pictured below.



TEMPEST are a contemporary watch designer, who have set out to design a robust, rugged and modern looking Swiss made timepiece that can be worn both as diving tool, but also as a dress watch. The Viking has plenty of interesting design elements and focal points such its two tiered crown that compliments the bezel so nicely, or its over-sized crown protectors and massive screw lock HEV (9 o'clock).



Specifications include; a 45mm x 18mm 316L surgical grade stainless steel case, which will house the ubiquitous workhorse that is the ETA 2824-2, a Swiss made automatic self winder, with 25 Jewels, Incabloc integrated shock resistance, 40 hours of power reserve, beating at 28,000/BPH. The movement will be regulated to 5 positions and will be protected by an inner soft iron case to shield against magnetic fields (80,000 a/m). The case’s lug to lug measurement is 52mm with a 22mm lug width.



Other features include an extra thick domed Sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on its inside, a ceramic bezel insert and a water-resistance of 2'000 meters. Each watch will be individually pressure tested. TEMPEST have already received their first sample cases. The finished watch promises to be something very special. Price TBA.
