ORIS Aquis CLEAN OCEANS Limited Edition

The statistics concerning ocean plastic are enough to make you weep; the UN’s Environment Program calculates that more than 8 million tons of plastic spew into the ocean every year.

That’s the same as emptying a garbage truck in the ocean every minute!

The UN believes 80 per cent of ocean litter is made up of plastic; the cost to the marine ecosystem is 8 billion dollars.

And according to some experts, by 2050 there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish, and an estimated 99 percent of all seabirds will have ingested plastic.

I think just the other day I read that a dead whale was found with over 40kg of plastic waste in his tummy WTF – poor little bastard! 

However the joke’s on us because we are blindly consuming toxic materials that are attached to the evil f#cking micro-plastics that are eaten by the fish that in turn end up on our dinner plates.

I'm no vegan tree hugger, but think of that next time you tuck into a Sushi roll or chow down on your fish and chips; I know I will.

So what’s all this got to do with dive watches, I hear you ask.

Well, Oris are at least one luxury watch brand, famous purveyors of diver’s watches that they are, who are at least trying to do their bit; and fair play to them.

They have been investing in and working with leading marine conservation organizations for a number of years now and have just -

announced a new partnership with Pacific Garbage Screening, a pioneering young organization that’s developing technology that will help keep the world’s water clean by capturing plastic before it enters the ocean.

To highlight the partnership, Oris have released a special version of their Aquis diver, the Clean Oceans Limited Edition.

It’s water-resistant to 300 meters, and comes with a beautiful graduated blue dial and a unidirectional rotating bezel with an aqua blue ceramic insert.

Its case-back has medallion made of recycled PET plastic set into it watch’s case back. Each of the 2000 pieces produced will be presented in special boxes made of environmentally friendly algae.

Its Swiss retail price is 2200CHF and it will available from June 2019.
